  1. Brian bulldoziers his way not the lineup ASAP.
  2. Let's see now... Nunez to the IL. Dozier up from BK. Strickland DFA. Zamora recalled. Also, Bruce Maxwell has been signed and assigned to work out at the ALTERNATE SITE. And yesterday, in case it was missed, Jordan Humphreys was DFA'd to make room for Ryan Cordell. Dozier to wear 15; Cordell, BTW, is 18.
  3. No Phillies hosting the wandering Blue Jays this weekend. No nothin' at Citizens Bank Park.
  4. July 30 also brought us Gil Hodges removing Cleon Jones from left field amid a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Astros and Justin Upton removing all hope between monsoons in 2015. As Casey would have said, you could look it up. I applaud the alternate team names in the IGT header.
  5. Marisnick to the IL with a strained hamstring. Ryan Cordell gets the call.
  6. Jose (Jose, Jose, Jose) officially retires.
  7. Red Sox writer recognizes pitching talent.
  8. Note the starting shortstop.
  9. Nick Markakis opts back in. Apparently you can do that (from the Athletic). Markakis went through an appeal process and was reinstated by Major League Baseball three weeks after his July 6 announcement that he wasn't going to play. It was reported at the time that any player not classified as “high risk” to severe COVID-19 complications would be ineligible to play all season upon opting out and being placed on the restricted list. But MLB rules include a process for players returning from the restricted list, and that still held, provided a player applied for reinstatement before Aug. 1. Markakis made his original opt-out decision a few days into the Braves' summer camp, citing several factors including teammate Freddie Freeman's bout with COVID-19 at that time, fans being prohibited from attending games and a desire to be with his wife and three sons rather than trying to play baseball within protocols and restrictions that would disrupt the daily routine and regimen that he needed to prepare for games. Since he's on a one-year contract, it wasn't known if he'd ever play again, although Markakis indicated at the time he didn't plan to retire. The desire to keep playing in the future was still there, and at some point after making his opt-out decision, Markakis determined he wanted to be on the field again.
  10. John McNamara, manager of the 1986 AL champion Red Sox, 88.
  11. Can't say I spent a minute missing Willie Randolph, but this is a terrific baseball and life conversation between our former 2B/Mgr and Howie Rose. https://youtu.be/tH-WkaEGKNshttps://youtu.be/tH-WkaEGKNs
  12. 1,100. David Peterson
  13. Includes phrases that would've been WTF? a couple of months ago.
  14. With Michael Conforto (the 1,000th Met overall) in right and David Peterson pitching (the projected 1,100th Met overall), tonight looms as the first time two Milestone Mets have played together. 100 Jimmie Schaffer 7/28/1965 200 Bill Sudakis 7/11/1972 300 Phil Mankowski 4/11/1980 400 Randy Milligan 9/12/1987 500 Pete Smith 4/5/1994 600 Lenny Harris 7/4/1998 700 Rey Sanchez 3/31/2003 800 Moises Alou 4/1/2007 900 Scott Hairston 4/1/2011 1000 Michael Conforto 7/24/2015 1100 David Peterson 7/28/2020 (projected) Once Peterson becomes Met No. 1,100, the Met Median will fall between Pedro A. Martinez (No. 550; Met debut 6/14/1996) and Andy Tomberlin (No. 551; Met debut 6/17/1996).
  15. David Peterson will wear good ol' No. 77.
  16. Peterson up and starting. Bashlor DFA'd.
  17. 1,097. Rick Porcello 1,098. Michael Wacha 1,099. Chasen Shreve That takes care of all the Opening Day roster newbies. David Peterson gonna sleep tonight with visions of a round number in his head.
  18. =kcmets post_id=41865 time=1595882391 user_id=53] I guess with masks and spacing a team can somewhat safely travel in 2-3 buses. Sharing a late night bathroom on the nicest of buses must be a hoot. Does the first guy to throw down a deuce get fined or just buy everyone steak and eggs for breakfast? >wachawachawachawachawacha<
  19. Today's Afterschool Special: A Start for Dom.
  20. After getting knocked around last night, the Mets have decided Tyler Bashlor is the answer to their pitching depth issues, at least for today. He's been called up following the tossing of Corey Oswalt into an unmarked van.
  21. Rockies reliever Tim Collins opts out in the wake of the Marlins' outbreak.
