  2. Jays and Orioles still discussing https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/blue-jays-orioles-discussing-a-plan-to-share-camden-yards-for-the-2020-mlb-season-per-report/nesting together. No word on whether Cardinals will join them. On Thursday, Maryland governor Larry Hogan spoke to the Associated Press on the possibility of allowing the Blue Jays to host games at Camden Yards: "We've had some discussions with the Orioles. I don't know the final details of that. Obviously we're watching our numbers very carefully every day. We're concerned about the spikes in other states."
  3. Matt Harvey close to a deal with the fucking Royals, according to Heyman.
  4. Mets press release virtually overdoes the word “virtually”. METS TO HOST OPENING DAY - JULY 24 VS. ATLANTA FLUSHING, N.Y., July 23, 2020 – The New York Mets will host Opening Day at Citi Field Friday, July 24, at 4:10 p.m. vs. the Atlanta Braves. While unfortunately Mets fans are not able to attend the game in-person, the organization will carry on with several traditions to welcome in the new season. The annual Shea family floral presentation, a tradition that dates to the first Opening Day at Shea Stadium in 1964, will take place virtually this year. The ceremony was started by Bill Shea who was instrumental in bringing National League baseball back to New York. Members of the Shea family will virtually present Mets manager Luis Rojas with a good luck floral arrangement. A group of essential workers from New York will come together to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” virtually. In the middle of the seventh inning, Lauren Patten, from the hit Broadway Show Jagged Little Pill, will virtually sing “God Bless America.” During the contest, the Mets will virtually salute Veteran of the Game, Staff Sergeant Juliet Taylor. A member of the US Army for 12 years from 2002-2014, Taylor was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. For her service she received three Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, seven Army Good Conduct Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal amongst many other honors. Taylor continues to serve her community by working with several non-profit organizations such as American Veterans, Post 43, Disabled American Veterans, Habitat for Heroes, Female Soldier Forgotten Heroes and Veterans of Foreign Wars. In addition, a special guest to be named later will throw out the first pitch. Does “virtually sing” means speak rhythmically?
  5. Corey Oswalt is likely the fifth starter.
  6. Young Juan Soto tests positive, obviously won't play tonight.
  7. Second assistant hitting coach Ryan Ellis is listed as 34, while Noah Syndergaard isn't listed on the IL. Jeremy Hefner is listed as 93, perhaps because Melky Cabrera, since teleased, had 53 in camp.

  11. Stroman and Gsellman to the IL. DeGrom, Matz and Porcello in the first series. MLB and MLBPA trying to negotiate six more teams into playoffs at the last minute; might disrupt Predict The Mets.
  12. Porcello was scratched from his intrasquad start today. DeGrom, Matz and Wacha And see who's sitting by their locka
  13. The Jays will roam the countryside, play pickup games and text their results to all interested parties.
  14. Pennsylvania, still smarting from the 1993 World Series, has yet to sign off on the PNC scheme/plan. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29517765/sources-blue-jays-seeking-alternatives-pittsburghhttps://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29517765/sources-blue-jays-seeking-alternatives-pittsburgh
  15. Mets release guys they picked up.
  16. Never should have been in another uniform to begin with — not to be confused with too good to have let leave in the first place.
  17. The Mets have signed Brian Dozier, per DiComo.
  18. Dodgers reportedly signing Mookie Betts looooooong term: 13 years (including this one), $380 mil, per Jeff Passan.
  19. Bob Sebra, Expos pitcher, 58, from organ problems. Bob dealt the 1986 Mets their final regular-season loss, a complete game 1-0 two-hitter in which Mitch Webster tripled in the first inning and scored on a groundout. The Mets were 103-54, but I was semi-convinced they weren't going to score at all in the postseason after this game and the previous weekend in Pittsburgh (they swept but hit tepidly). Though they won their final five, I saw Sebra as a harbinger of Mike Scott and Bruce Hurst. Earlier in September, Sebra beat Ojeda in a rare bad Bobby O outing, which turned out to be the last game I ever went to with my parents. Given that we were 19 or so games in front, it was the least bothersome 9-1 loss on record.
  20. Pittsburgh, it is now reported.
  21. The Angels have outrighted Jacob Rhame to wherever fallen Angels land these days.
  22. Tommy Malone will start on Opening Night for an apparently truly desperate Orioles club.
