Well, the last thread I started before I disappeared for a week was this one, which still only has three votes:http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=277Seawolf started the threads for the two remaining Seattle games, and the first two in Philadelphia. Not many votes for those games, either:http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=329&sid=2be96345b0e3d441e7f5bd303eeb5018http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=330&sid=2be96345b0e3d441e7f5bd303eeb5018http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=331&sid=2be96345b0e3d441e7f5bd303eeb5018http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=332&sid=2be96345b0e3d441e7f5bd303eeb5018No threads exist yet for the final Philles game, or the first two with the Yankees. At the old place, we were getting 10 to 15 votes per game. Now it's only 3 to 5. I don't know why there's been such a dropoff, but clearly there has. I'd be okay with allowing fewer than 10 points if it brought more participation. I've always adhered to the rule, but never was a strong backer of it.

I think I'm going to call a close to the Schaefer voting for this year, due to overwhelming apathy. Since the move from ezBoard, we seem to only have three or four regular voters. If somebody else decides to create the threads, and if the voting picks up, I'll be happy to use my magic spreadsheet to resume the tallying. But, failing that, we can probably just go ahead and grant a truncated 2005 award to Cliff Floyd.

I voted Floyd. But I hope it's Beltran. (Interesting that he wasn't even a choice in the poll.) It would be good for him, and the Mets, if he had an insane hot streak like he did last October.

I'm not aware that the Rounding Third guy has ever been here.Has he? (Or she?)I've been aware of that site for quite a while, but I don't think I've ever had any contact with whoever's running it.

Giambi is a very extreme example. It's rare that a player making as many millions as he is has such little hope of future productivity. But you're right; there does come a time when you have to eat the money and clear the roster (or lineup) spot. You can't rush to judgement. And some teams (or people) are going to be more patient than others. But Matsui has had almost a year and a half, and he's probably shown us what he can do. He's not a terrible ballplayer, but he's also not the kind of player who you see as a starter on a winning team.I'm not going to gnash my teeth if they give him more time to find himself, although I'm less and less confident that he ever will. But I wouldn't mind at all if the Mets promoted Keppinger and started giving him some more time at second base. We might as well see what he can do.

Moved over from ezBoard, the Schaefer totals for April 2005Floyd Named Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for AprilCliff Floyd is the first-ever winner of the CPF Schaefer Mets Player of the Month Award.
