Grand Central Mets Tips & Tricks, Part One: Tables!
Brock Beauchamp posted a blog entry in Battle Your Tail Off
With this series of blog entries, I'm going to try to cover some of the features of the new site in a few paragraphs. Using the old site, as I'm sure many of you are aware, tables were mostly unusable. That has changed! I'll tackle B-Ref tables quickly in this post, but you can do similar things with FanGraphs or other sites that use table data (which is how almost all stat sites display their content). First, pop on over to Soto's B-Ref page: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/sotoju01.shtml Just above his stat table, you'll see Share & Export. Click and then select Modify, Share, & Export Table. Boom, you can then select what stats you want to display and which you want to remove. I've removed all seasons except the last two. I also removed team and league because "duh". Then click the big X in the top right of the yellow square, and you have your filtered table. Grab that table by moving your cursor to the top left of the table (just to the left of Year in this case) and while holding down the button of your mouse/trackpad, drag toward the bottom right of the table. The table will begin to highlight in yellow as you select the cells. Grab them all and let go of the mouse/trackpad. Then copy what has been selected (control+c on Windows, command+c on macOS). Pop over to Jays Centre, start typing a comment, and paste your content (control+v on Windows, command+v on macOS). I'm going to keep these to a few options at once, then we will move to another batch of questions. Please answer as many questions as you can. 1. Do we want a MiLB forum? All the other sites have them, and it's a useful forum, as we write a lot of minor-league content, and that's a good place to put it. But if the majority of you think no for now, we go with no. 2. There is a game recounts archive. Is this an okay place to use as storage for old game threads? We find that during the season, the team (Mets) forum is overrun with game threads. I can move those threads to that archive forum every morning, it's part of my daily tasks. 3. The fantasy league forum has posts, but I'm not sure if it's actually active. Is this active, and should we keep it? 4. There are a ton of empty forums (player of the game threads, mofo archive, et al). I can delete all those, yes?

I implemented a fix for that field. -

Are you in dark mode? That's the only time I've seen fields you cannot see. It's a thing I've had to fix as I come across them since I launched dark mode awhile back. -
Oh yeah you can copy and paste all sorts of stuff, including tables. Yeah, there are A TON of hidden forums right now. The server is working to index, move, or delete millions of items right now, and there's no way to override the settings for one forum. Within 24 hours, everything should be done, and we can start making more forums public again. When that happens, the Mets forum will disappear for maybe an hour, so don't be surprised if later today or early tomorrow this forum disappears for a little while. It will be back.

1. You can upload images directly from your computer, and post them here. Just look for the "Drag files..." at the bottom of the reply window and go from there. 2. You can tag users to make them aware of content, just start with an @ symbol and then select the user, like so @Edgy MD. 3. There is a GIF icon at the top of the reply window, and it contains a GIF library you can easily insert into a post, like so: 4. You can easily embed stuff with just a URL. Just paste a YouTube video URL, then hit spacebar. This happens: Do the same with a tweet and this happens:

This is a surprise, but also kind of how things tend to go with migrations. Our developer said he can get the conversion done tomorrow, which is way ahead of when I expected. So I told him to go ahead and do it, even if I haven't done some of the typical work I have done before launch. Tonight, probably late, I will shut off the forum here. That will allow us to grab the most recent state of the forum, and then migrate it to the new platform. Some time tomorrow - hopefully late morning, but these things sometimes stretch into afternoon and evening - the site will reappear, looking very different. Your current email and password will work on the new site. But, some users don't remember their password, or they lost access to that email, etc. I will be online as much as possible tomorrow to respond to these inquiries. Everything will be chaotic at launch. Icons might be wrong, language might reflect the wrong team (in this case, the Twins, as that's the site code we're using this time around). We'll have a thread to log all this stuff, and I'll play whack-a-mole, fixing small issues as we go. If you have questions, ask 'em. Oh, and the site will launch without ads. Those take weeks to get set up, sometimes as much as a month nowadays. Second edit: Oh, Ed and I spoke about this earlier today. This forum that you're using right here and now will remain intact, and the server untouched. You just won't be able to access it, as we'll be redirecting this domain to GrandCentralMets.com. Ed will maintain control of both this domain, and that server.

Brock to the Future, or Name That Site
Brock Beauchamp replied to Benjamin Grimm's topic in New York Mets Talk
Everything will carry over! We're even working on restoring as much of the archives as we can, though how successful we'll be in that is still up in the air. -
I lived in San Diego for close to a decade. I was SO HAPPY when they brought back the brown and yellow. So much better than that other crap they tried for 35 years or however long it was.

Looks like people are pretty clearly in favor of two logos, both of which go together as complementary logos. In site usage, we need two logos: the standard "full" logo, and also an icon logo. Padres Mission:
-
That's kinda what I figured, which is why I didn't use it. But TBH, I also didn't check.
-
It is, though kerning might be different.
-
And none of these are 100% final; these are mockups that I've done at 10-20 minutes per design. The final logo needs to be completely re-done with more precise measurements, kerning, leading, etc.
-
It's intentional. Honestly, the green is going to be terrible with the site, which will be primarily orange and blue. Logos also need to be really versatile, and the more contrasting, complementary, etc. colors you throw into the mix, the more problematic the logo usage becomes. A logo needs to work in one color, then two colors, then full color (if there are more than two colors). It needs to be able to be an inch wide, or ten feet wide. There's a lot that goes into the process, and a lot that needs to be considered.
