RailRiders Blank Syracuse As Mets No-Hit

The Syracuse Mets were held without a hit in a 4-0 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Syracuse drew four walks but stranded three runners and never pushed a runner across. Jorge Polanco worked two walks from the cleanup spot, and Christian Arroyo and Matt Rudick each added a free pass, but the lineup managed nothing else against Scranton's staff.

Starter Jack Wenninger gave 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts. The damage against him began in the second, when the RailRiders scored on a double-play groundout and then took a 2-0 lead on a run-scoring triple. They tacked on a solo home run in the fifth to make it 3-0. Ben Simon followed with 1 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out three. Scranton added an insurance run in the eighth on a solo home run off Adbert Alzolay, who struck out three in his lone inning. Ofreidy Gómez worked a scoreless ninth. Syracuse's offense, which struck out eight times as a team, never advanced a runner to third base.

Suero's Walk-Off Homer Stuns Reading In Extras

Chris Suero hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Binghamton Rumble Ponies a 5-4 win over the Reading Fightin Phils. Binghamton jumped ahead in the first when Jacob Reimer launched a two-run homer that scored Suero for a 2-0 lead. Reading answered with a two-run homer in the fourth to tie it, and the game stayed level into extra innings. In the top of the 10th, Reading took a 4-2 lead, scoring its zombie runner on a double and adding another run on a single. In the bottom half, Binghamton's zombie runner, Vincent Perozo, moved to third on a Wyatt Young single before Suero ended it with a drive to left center, scoring Perozo and Young. Suero finished 2-for-5 with a triple, a home run, and three runs batted in.

Perozo had a big night as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Bryce Conley turned in the standout pitching performance, working seven innings and allowing two runs on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Brian Metoyer followed with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts, and Douglas Orellana earned the win despite allowing two runs in the 10th. Binghamton left 14 runners on base but did just enough late.

Three Homers Power Brooklyn Past Jersey Shore

The Brooklyn Cyclones hit three home runs to beat the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, 6-3. After falling behind 1-0 on a Jersey Shore double in the second, Brooklyn seized control in the third inning. Corey Collins drove a three-run homer to right field, scoring Diego Mosquera and Ronald Hernandez to make it 3-1, and Yonatan Henriquez followed with a solo home run to push the lead to 4-1. Brooklyn added two more in the sixth when Colin Houck homered to right center, scoring Daiverson Gutierrez. Jersey Shore answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a single, but got no closer.

Collins finished 1-for-3 with the three-run homer and a walk, Henriquez went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and a run scored, and Houck added a 1-for-3 night with a home run and two runs batted in. Dakota Hawkins gave Brooklyn solid work, allowing one run on two hits over three innings with two strikeouts. Garrett Stratton struck out three over two scoreless innings, and Hunter Hodges, Parker Carlson, and Hoss Brewer combined to finish it. Brooklyn struck out 13 times as a team and left 13 on base, but did its damage with the long ball.

St. Lucie's Late Rally Falls Short Against Clearwater

The St. Lucie Mets fell 5-4 to the Clearwater Threshers despite a late push. Clearwater opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning, getting one across on a fielder's choice aided by a throwing error and two more on a single. The Threshers added two in the fifth on a home run for a 5-1 lead. St. Lucie chipped away, scoring its first run in the fourth when Elian Peña came home on a Randy Guzman double-play grounder. Yohairo Cuevas brought in another with a double in the sixth, scoring Francisco Toledo.

The Mets made it interesting in the eighth, when Simon Juan doubled to left to score Peña and Cuevas and pull within 5-4, but they could not complete the comeback. Peña led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Cuevas finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run batted in. Emilio Obispo turned in the top pitching effort, working four innings and allowing three runs, none earned, on two hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Elwis Mijares allowed two earned runs over two innings, and Joe Scarborough and Tyler McLoughlin combined for three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. St. Lucie struck out 12 times and left four runners on base.
