Mets Minor League Report: Carreno Dazzles, Cyclones Erupt Late, Syracuse Falls in 11

Nicolas Carreno was the story of the night, firing 5 2/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts as St. Lucie blanked Bradenton 8-0. Brooklyn rode a six-run seventh to a 10-5 win, with JT Benson driving in two. Binghamton walked off Portland 5-4 in 10 innings on Chris Suero's single, after Jorge Polanco's three-run homer. Syracuse pushed across seven runs in the third behind Christian Arroyo and Ryan Clifford homers, but lost 9-8 in 11 innings.

Syracuse Buries Seven In The Third But Drops Extra-Inning Heartbreaker

Syracuse erupted for seven runs in the top of the third but could not hold on, falling 9-8 to the Rochester Red Wings in 11 innings. The big frame began with a Jihwan Bae walk, and a Kevin Parada single, and Jackson Cluff brought home the tying run with a single. Nick Morabito followed with a two-run double, Christian Arroyo crushed a three-run homer, and Ryan Clifford added a solo shot to make it 7-1. Syracuse scratched out one more in the eighth when Bae singled and scored on a Parada double, but it was not enough.

Bae led the offense by reaching base three times with two hits, two runs, and a stolen base. Parada added two hits, two runs batted in, and a run, and Cluff and Morabito each contributed two hits. Arroyo drove in three on his home run, and Clifford and Cluff also knocked in runs.

Starter Xzavion Curry struggled, allowing five runs on eight hits across four innings with no walks and two strikeouts, surrendering two home runs. The bullpen could not protect the lead, and Alex Carrillo took the loss after allowing a run on one hit and three walks over 1 1/3 innings. Syracuse left seven runners on base.

Polanco And Suero Power Binghamton To Walk-Off Win

Binghamton walked off the Portland Sea Dogs 5-4 in 10 innings. The Rumble Ponies broke through in the fifth, when Jaylen Palmer walked and Wyatt Young singled ahead of Jorge Polanco's three-run homer to make it 3-1. Portland answered with three in the sixth to take the lead, but Binghamton tied it in the bottom half on Jaylen Palmer's run-scoring double that brought home Jose Ramos. In the 10th, zombie runner TT Bowens moved to third and scored the winning run on Chris Suero's single to center.

Polanco led the way, going 1-for-1 with a home run, three runs batted in, two walks, and a run scored. Wyatt Young added two hits, and Palmer contributed a double, a run batted in, and a run. Suero and Jose Ramos each chipped in a hit.

Starter Brendan Girton turned in a steady effort, allowing four runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings with one walk, one strikeout, and one home run allowed. The bullpen was perfect the rest of the way, with Dan Hammer earning the win after a scoreless inning. Binghamton left eight runners on base.

Brooklyn's Six-Run Seventh Sinks Wilmington

Brooklyn rallied from a five-run deficit to beat the Wilmington Blue Rocks 10-5, breaking the game open with six runs in the seventh. Trailing 5-2, the Cyclones loaded the bases and chipped away: a hit-by-pitch and a walk forced in two runs, Yonatan Henriquez tied it on a sacrifice fly aided by an error, Colin Houck walked in another, and JT Benson capped the burst with a two-run single to make it 8-5. Brooklyn added two more in the eighth on a Daiverson Gutierrez single and a force out.

Benson led the offense with two hits, two runs batted in, and a run. Grae Kessinger added a double, two runs batted in, and two runs, while leadoff man John Bay reached base twice with two runs scored. Henriquez drove in two, and Corey Collins reached base three times.

Frank Camarillo had a rough outing, allowing five runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings with two walks, two strikeouts, and two home runs allowed. The bullpen slammed the door, with Garrett Stratton striking out three over 1 1/3 hitless innings to earn the win. Brooklyn left eight runners on base.

Carreno's Seven Strikeouts Lead St. Lucie To Shutout

St. Lucie cruised to an 8-0 shutout of the Bradenton Marauders behind a dominant pitching effort. The Mets jumped ahead early, scoring twice in the first when Elian Peña scored on a force out, and Jamari Baylor singled home a run. They added two in the second on Peña's solo homer and a hit-by-pitch that plated another. St. Lucie tacked on single runs in the seventh and ninth and two more in the eighth to pull away.

Leadoff man Elian Peña paced the attack, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a run batted in, two walks, and three runs scored. Jamari Baylor was a force with three hits, two doubles, two runs batted in, and two runs. Randy Guzman added two hits.

Nicolas Carreno was overpowering, tossing 5 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts to pick up the win. The bullpen finished the shutout, combining for 3 1/3 scoreless innings. St. Lucie stranded 16 runners on base.
