G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 The Mets report they will replace Neil Walker on the roster with Vegas righty reliever Kevin McGowan, a New Hampshire product born October 18, 1991. Five wins and four saves for the 51s. He'll wear 61.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 IIRC good numbers in the minors through last year then go eaten alive in big-league camp this spring.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 The pride of Franklin Pierce returns tonight. Plenty of good seats still available. Also, an extra coach: Ryan Ellis, to wear No. 60. He is the Mets' minor league short-season hitting coordinator, which is a position I had no idea existed.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 I'm seeing Wally Backman, No. 86, end of 2011 listed.

I am also wishy washy on bullpen catchers and stuff. 1st base, 3rd base, hitting, pitching, bench. That's 5 coaches. That's enough for 25 friggin guys. Now the Mets have an assistant hitting coach, a bullpen coach and 2 bullpen catchers.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 There is, I believe, still a five coaches in the dugout rule so whatever new or assistant roles they've conjured up in recent years are decidedly second level positions so, if I were running a database on such stuff, I'd cut things off at the mgr + 5 level.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 I bet there's a September expansion rule. And hey, he gets a number.
