metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 I have some questions about this , specifically regarding the rope .I thought the first half of this dragged and really I was disappointed in proportion to the hype
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 I don't like war films, and I sure as heck don't like Mel Gibson, but I thought that this was an entertaining film. It was a story well told with a lot of humanity.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 i didn't much like it until the court-martial scene. Then the combat stuff that followed was really harrowing; the best battle scenes since SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. It reminded me of the HBO mini-series THE PACIFIC, which, while not as good as BAND OF BROTHERS, was still pretty good. Gibson's constant use of religious imagery was a bit much, but at least it was relevant to the character, so i didn't mind. But Gibson surely does love to shoot scenes of violent christian martyrdom.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Author Posted August 15, 2017 Yeah, Gibson sure poured it on...I thought Vaughn at times was comical, maybe it was hard to see him in a serious role. The way he held the gun at times looked odd(I am no expert) , small things like that....why didn't the Japanese cut the rope?, or lob bombs over the side when the Americans were hanging out down below, I have read a few theories on this ...I should not let things like that bother my enjoyment of a movie but it did.
