A thread to chronicle the Mets' step-by-step ascent from the murky bottom of the ERA standings. And the bottom of the ERA+ standings too.

Phillie, you're going down.

Check out that ERA+ for the Rockies.

Six or seven shutouts in a row and I think we could rocket up to 12th or 13th place in no time.
Well, 13th anyway.

Lol. On so many levels

They almost got the ERA below 5.00 tonight.

Such little faith. The Braves and Phils are totally within striking distance.

That's a yuge park adjustment for Coors. Nearly the same ERA+ as LA, but an 0.88 difference in ERA.

It's also the park adjustment for Dodger Stadium coming into play, methinks.

Hear those footsteps, San Diego? The Mets should be overtaking you any day now.

Any day now.

Oh, mercy! We're soo close to the top of the basement stairs we can almost smell fresh air! We can almost see natural light!

Special thanks to the Blue Jays and Troy Tulowitzki for dropping 17 on the Reds yesterday.

What would help the team ERA of course would be for some of the individuals to get their personal ERA down from above or near the double digits mark.
Maybe an ERA north of 8.00 is the pitcher's equivalent to the 'Mendoza Line' or the dreaded 'Interstate' BA

If so then it would be nice to see Mr. Pill, currently at 13.50 thru only 2/3 of an inning, get below that threshold starting tonight.
Some of the other '8 and Up' crew may not get their chance anytime soon, or ever:
Josh Smoker = 8.00
Rafael Montero = 8.23
Tommy Milone = 10.50
Neil Ramirez = 11.57
Adam Wilk = 12.27
Sean Gilmartin = 13.50
Kevin Plawecki = 18.00

Knocking on the door are Hansel Robles and his inflated 6.23. Robles, btw, 2 outings in Vegas so far, 2 GF including 1 Save, 2 IP, 10 Batters Faced, 2 Hits, 2 BBs, 3 K, 0 Runs
Robert Gsellman lowered his to a paltry 5.75 with Monday's outing, while Fernando Salas currently sits at 5.56

btw, with the team ERA now at 4.85, the starting ERA [u:2fh7li3s]AND[/u:2fh7li3s] the Reliever's ERA are both right at 4.85
MLB-wide, the bullpen ERA is about 0.33 R/G below that of the starters, and traditionally that's about a normal split.

We actually had a thread once on where the Mendoza line was for pitchers, and we settled on a 6.50 ERA.

14) =#BA0C2E]Philadelphia Phillies: 4.84

Full report tomorrow morn!

WE'RE NUBMER 13!!
WE'RE NUMBER 13!!

btw, Philly (10 earned vs Miami) and Cincy (5 ER in 8 IP vs TOR) have already lost today so their pitching stats aren't getting any better in tomorrow's update either.

I guess the Mets couldn't stand prosperity. The last 2 beat downs have tacked on to the team ERA.

The Mets have surrendered 285 runs (not all earned mind you) on the season. The most in MLB. Even the with the DH rule, all the AL teams have allowed fewer runs than the Mets.

Back up to 13th place in both ERA and ERA+ and gaining on still others -- four straight games of allowing 3, 3, 1, 1 runs will do wonderful things to your pitching stats.

And look at our starters over the last four games (Wheeler, Harvey, Gsellman, Matz): 25.2 IP, [u:2yv2k8g5]2 ER[/u:2yv2k8g5] on 19 + 8 walks, 19 Ks

Now they just need to: a) keep that up, and B) get deGrom straightened out so he can join the party

Seemingly alternating two well pitched games with one blowup, the Mets are still not moving up as fast as we'd like. This is a shame, because Pittsburgh is showing it can be done. And Cincinnati is sure showing a team can still plummet in the rankings.

Two starters (deGrom, Matz) are pitching consistently well. That's something. Wheeler, Lugo, and Montero are welcome to join them at any time.
