Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Last appeared in a game for the Mets on September 13, 2014. Became a free agent on November 6, 2015, but hasn't gotten another contract until now, finally, as noted in the Roster 2017 thread, signing with the Sussex County Miners of the Canadian American Association. Good for him.But this finally marks his official exit from the organization, and that's when the memories come, distant as they may be.I remember him getting a win in his first outing against his former team. I remember Lunchie remarking upon his acquisition* that if "Vic Black" isn't the name of a future closer, then he don't know what.*Black was the PtBNL in the trade that sent Marlon Byrd and John Buck to the Bucs for Dilson Herrera and a PtBNL.

Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 I associated him with Hop On Pop, especially when Andrew Brown was on the team. Snack, SnackEat a SnackEat a Snack with Brown and BlackGoodbye Red Beard - best of luck in the Great White North.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 We got Black from the Pirates. When he was a Met, I was at a game in Pittsburgh, and when he came into the game the scoreboard had him listed as Victor Black. The fans at PNC were as confused as we were about why they called him Victor instead of Vic.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Stranded inherited runners as a core competency. Was a fun postgame interview and easygoing social media interactor. Would have fit well on the playoff teams and benefited from the exposure, probably. Was going to make the Dickey trade look even better when John Buck (and Marlon Byrd) was turned into this closer of the future. Then Herrera was traded for Bruce and there went that thread...until April 2017 when Jay Bruce maybe reignited its fuse. One of those athletes who didn't mind brandishing a MAGA cap (though not at the MLB level, since he wasn't on it in 2015 or 2016), and that was kind of disappointing.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 He should have taken my advice and dyed his hair black and lost the shaggy lumberjack beard for a tightly trimmed fu manchu. He'd have easily collected 55 saves that way.
