Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Apparently from running out a grounder in today's game. Was pulled after 3 innings, no word yet on how severe/not.He had previously lead off the game with a triple and later scored. (3-0 Mets @ Braves in 7th)When I was growing up, ballplayers didn't even have obliques. I liked those days better.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Well, that makes it a bad time for Nimmo to be hurt as well. If neither can answer the bell for opening day, that means they are going to have to look beyond the 40-man roster for a fifth outfielder (Taijeron? Somebody off the wire?) or carry a seventh infielder that can fool around in the outfield (Kelly?)But that's the only two real centerfielders and they're both hurt.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2017 Author Posted March 25, 2017 Lagares missing any time would certainly cement an OD roster spot for Conforto as well.As much as he's earned a spot this spring regardless of what everyone else is doing -- he hit a LONG HR off RA Dickey (whose beard is starting to go gray) today and had at least one other hit -- he'd be neither the starter nor the logical late inning replacement with the current crew as is so there is some logic to him starting the year in Vegas.I'd prefer a more versatile type off the bench (Kelly, TJ Rivera, etc.) than say Taijeron if neither Nimmo nor Lagares can answer the bell. Four full-time capable OFs plus those two (plus Reyes?) should be fine.Lagares is insisting this one isn't serious -- not nearly as bad as when he did the right side oblique last year he says -- but of course that's what they always say. Terry is saying we'll see how he is tomorrow.Sewald pitched a tidy 9th in his bid to be last man in the pen although Edgin did likewise in the 8th.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 It certainly adds to the urgency to get Reyes some work in the outfield.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2017 Author Posted March 28, 2017 Results of Lagares's MRI "better than we hoped" sez Terry (as relayed by Anthony DiComo @mlb.com)Lagares adds that he's "almost 100%" while the Mets pronounce themselves to be "a bit more optimistic" that he'll be healthy enough to make the OD roster
