Filmmaker Richard Linklater has clearly moved on from his early template of Texas kids getting blasted on the occasion of celebrating their final day of high school circa 1976 (Dazed and Confused).
This one instead is about a bunch of Texas kids as they get blasted in anticipation of their first day of college circa 1980.
Specifically it follows a crew from the (fictional) college's baseball team -- some freshmen, some returning -- as they party and test each other and bond and get the lay of the land (among other things) over the weekend
prior to Monday's start of classes and formal practices.

And, yes, the official title does have the double exclamation points in it.

Blake Jenner (no, no relation) a veteran of the TV show GLEE (no singing here) and Zoey Deutch (daughter of Leah Thompson) are the semi-leads in the otherwise mostly male ensemble cast which includes the likes of Juston Street (brother of ML hurler Huston) and Wyatt Russell (son of Kurt & Goldie, half-brother to Kate Hudson, and himself a former minor league hockey goaltender)

Soundtrack includes contributions from (among others): The Knack, Sniff and the Tears, Sugar Hill Gang (yeah, that one), ZZ Top, Peaches & Herb, Blondie, Foreigner, Steve Forbert

I thought it was okay. Some funny moments but not terribly memorable.

My first thought was, "how long is this?" After Boyhood I get the shakes when I see Linklater's name.

But I see that this is less than two hours long, so perhaps I'll give it a shot at some point.

I was disappointed at the sheer mediocrity of this. As an 80s movie, a baseball movie, a romance movie, they could have had something but it was basically nothing. What did the pothead being taken away by the authorities accomplish? Where did the Detroit maniac story go? A few funny scenes but really failed all around.

No thanks on the movie, but I'd probably try to find the sound track CD.
