Guest cooby Guests Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Does anybody else remember the "Eight is Enough" episode where Susan's husband Earl was signed by the Mets? The way he said "THe New York Mets!!!" was embarrassing at the time, because they really sucked. And he said it like they were the best team everIf my grandkids weren't arriving any minute, I'd look for a video clip
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 I don't think I've seen a whole episode of that show, I remember my Mom liking it a lot. When I hear Earl the Pearl I of course think of Earl Monroe not the Mets.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Merle "The Pearl" Stockwell. Third highest-profile among fictional MetsLots of other Mets pitchers appeared in the episode where he debuted for them as Susan was having her baby. Possibly Rube Walker or Joe Pignatano also.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Had a bad outing and ignored Nicholas and his friends. This was before the relationship with Susan. That's all I remember. I'm sure Mr. Bradford said something profound to wrap the episode up in a tight bow.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Susan and Merle enjoyed a double wedding along with David and Janet, whose marriage was doomed.
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Wow, my family used to watch that show, and I have no recollection of that storyline!
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Ralph Macchio came along at some point, I think his name inb the show may have been "Chachi"
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Ralph was right out of high school but playing something like a 14-year-old.

Susan sticks up for her brother by confronting Merle, and a relationship is born!
Guest cooby Guests Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 That's right it was Merle!I could never figure out why if eight was enough, they brought Ralph in but he was cute so I didn't mind.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Sounds like an example of "Cousin Oliver Syndrome".
Guest cooby Guests Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 I have somewhat forgiven Robbie Rist for Coousin Oliver since I found out he is Stuffy the Dragon's voice

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 That guy forced Tommy to stand election as Prom Queen. There was something weird Scoutmasterly about that.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 So it was more like "Ernie Douglas Syndrome"?
Guest cooby Guests Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 I did not realize that Lani O'Grady (Mary) died in 2001. She was my husband's favoriteOh and speaking of Ernie Douglas, Lani's brother was the oldest one (whose name I forget)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Robbie, originally the middle son, graduated to oldest son when his brother Mike got engaged in black and white, married in color, and then pulled a total Chuck Cunningham. Robbie was played by Don Grady, Lani O'Grady's older brother. The family business was starring in shows in which the number of children are enumerated.
Guest cooby Guests Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Robbie, that's right. To this day I can imagine myself in jammies and curlers on Saturday nights watching My Three Sons.Of course (and I think I have mentioned it here) I was totally in love with Katie. Poor Polly (chips wife) was just a pale comparison And yeah that's right about show titles.
