Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 So they opened the season last night hosting Staten Island MFYs and the game went 20 innings and a 5 and a half hours.Bad guys won, 3-2.My boy Gabriel Llanes (read more about him in the AAP forum) started and went 5, gave up 2 runs. He was the first of 10 pitchers!I get the sense the roster is still in assembly mode as newly signed kids arrive.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Pitching prowess: Cyclones manager Tom Gamboa saw starter Harol Gonzalez toss a no-hitter into the seventh, a slight birght spot in the team's fifth loss of the year.Full story here
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Pitching outclassing the hitters seems to be the story throughout the organization.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 We're gonna check out the Cyclones on Monday night. Bringing a bag of Skittles for Gabe.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I see they're playing the Renegades. We're eyeballing a Monday 11:00 game inJuly to see them on the road in Fishkill.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I feel like the Cyclones are a canary in a coal mine. As monotonous as baseball has gotten at the big league level, with strikeout after strikeout, and as depressing as this has been for offensive output as well as sheer playability, the low minors might suggest emergency levels are on the horizon. The 'Clones, without even suffering pitchers to hit, has thus far posted a .173 / .253 / .229 // .482 offensive line. As a team! And that's not even the lowest in the league! (Thank you, Batavia Muckdogs.)Yeah, it's early. And yeah, things could change as more signees from the draft join the team, and more college players acquaint themselves with what wood bats can and can't do, but I still find it alarming, and I hope some philosophical change is to come before the league does something drastic like mess with the ball or mound other equipment or change the rules. The standout hitter so far, among all of that mud, is doubles-hitting second baseman Nick Segaris (.360 / .484 / .480 // .964) but he's 23 (oldest on the team) with three summers of pro ball behind him, so he'll be in Columbia or St. Lucie any day.Fortunately, the pitchers have more than done their job as well, keeping the team from sinking right off the pier. Their leader thus far has been Merandy Gonzalez, a 20-year-old Dominican also in his fourth year with the organization. In two starts so far, Gonazlez has throwin 11.1 innings, allowing only a single run (0.79 ERA), walking three and striking out 15.All this has added up to a 3-5 start, already putting them four games behind the crosstown rivals and division-leading Staten Island Yankees. Veteran manager Tom Gamboa insists they will right the ship, and he may be right. Following the 20-inning opener, the Cyclones had a ten-inning affair the next day, and then a 17-inning marathon later in the week. Normalcy has perhaps not yet set in.Your Brooklyn Cyclones (SS A+, Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Props to whichever editor called for that parallel shot of the Dodgers and the Clones.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Going to the businessman's matinee Monday morning (aka kidee-camper matinee)to see the 'clones at HV Renegades. I don't think I've ever been to a 11:00 am ball-game before. Do they sell beer at 11:00 am? Brooklyn reached .500 late last week but is now on a two-game slide.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Floating around and winning five of their last 10, the 'Clones remain five games back of the division leading Is-That-An-Island? Yankees, tied for third, which also means tied for last. Like the parent club, some days they just wake up and don't hit. They recently got three-hit by Hudson Valley, with most of the heavy lifting being done by a pitcher named Travis Ott, who is 3-0 and hasn't yet given up an earned run. I was disappointed to find no reports connecting him to the Mel/Ed Ott dynasty. The Cyclones have cycled through their early season organizational players and all the college players from the draft have settled in, so they should likely get better, since the Mets' first 10 draftees were all college players. The biggest splash so far has come from second round draftee and former Florida Gator Pete Alonso, slugging .553 through his first 43 trips to the plate. Adopt Pete Alonso. He's 21 and ready for fun. And get a picture of him while you're at it. He's a holdout.ComingTransactionSigned As1st RoundDraft ChoiceAnd AssignedTo Brooklyn6/21Signed As2nd RoundDraft ChoiceAnd AssignedTo Brooklyn7/7Signed As4th RoundDraft ChoiceAnd AssignedTo
