That would be Ivan Locke, a construction supervisor who leaves his northern England job site one night right as the project he's steering is on the eve of a crucial step on a major build for some major conglomerate.
But instead of driving home to the wife and kids and then back to the site the next morning, he turns his car south towards London where he needs to deal with a situation that, as of yet, no one else knows about.
On the way he tries to deal with his life's problems -- past, present, and future -- armed only with just his wits and his car phone.
