According to the MLB Transactions page, the Mets released John Mayberry Jr. on July 30th.

Here's to a not very memorable Mets career....

I thought he'd be a good platoon half for the 4th/5th OF spot - and if he had hit anywhere near his career OPS (734) he would have.
But instead he threw up (pun intended) the worst season of his career by a long shot (an absurd 545 OPS) to the point where his LHP splits were worse than his career vs RHP numbers and for a guy with large split differentials that's not a good sign. It's not like he didn't get his chances either, he started every game vs a LHP plus got his share of PH ABs as well. And the really worst part is that he was the better of the two OF backups.

Hit a home run a couple of times. Great spring training.

Won a game in the 14th or thereabouts in the middle of May, which by all rights should have been a proprietary month for him.

I'm officially ready to file memories now that he's officially a member of the Chicago White Sox.

Um.... Well he wore 44 and hit like Jay Bell did in the same number.

Anyhow, his attempting to Sox his way back to productivity puts me in mind of the bad precedents of fellow righthand hitting left fielders Cleon Jones and George Foster, who tacked unimpressive runs of 12 and 15 games respectively with the Whiteys onto the end of their Mets tenures.

Hey! Remember when he batted cleanup against Clayton Kershaw, and it was so embarrassing we traded for Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe and [crossout:3szr5ezu]Carlos Gomez[/crossout:3szr5ezu] Cespedes, like, the next day?

Mayberry for SecretMVP!!

My longtime friend Shoeless Don the White Sox fan can now have the pleasure of rooting for him.

It would be funny if Terry was asked about that game at the end of the season, and acknowledged, "Well, frankly, that lineup card was a cry for help. I thought it was obvious."
