Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Poking as I was around beisbol history today, I found something remarkable. If the Mets stay the course and pull off a sweep of the Padres, and the Rays were to similarly take care of business against the Tigers, the Padres would displace the Rays as the poorest performing of the active MLB franchises historically. At least, that was true enough when I first discovered their perilous predicament earlier today and began conceiving this post. Now, as I prepare to hit submit, I realize the Rays lost this afternoon to the Tigers, 21, and so will retain their ignoble crown at least until the end of this series, even if they win and the Pads lose the next two. BUT ALL BETS ARE OFF THIS WEEKEND!Below see the all-time standings for all the active teams. Note that sorting the teams by winning percentage and sorting them by games out won't get you quite the same order, due to the gross disparities in games played. But it's close enough.RkFranchiseAKAWLW-L%GBG>.500DivsPnntsWSPlayoffsPlayersHOF#1New York YankeesNew York Highlanders9,9707,537.56952433184027511604402San Francisco GiantsNew York Giants, New York, Gothams10,8359,307.5379452.515288238251708573Los Angeles DodgersBrooklyn Dodgers, Brooklyn Robins, Brooklyn Superbas, Brooklyn Bridegrooms, Brooklyn Grooms, Brooklyn Grays and Brooklyn Atlantics10,5459,537.5251712.5100813226281763484St. Louis CardinalsSt. Louis Perfectos, St. Louis Browns and St. Louis Brown Stockings10,5359,737.5197817.5798122311272054445Boston Red SoxBoston Americans9,1908,611.5163927.05797138211741366Chicago CubsChicago Orphans, Chicago Colts and Chicago White Stockings10,56310,112.5109991.04515162162002447Cleveland IndiansCleveland Naps, Cleveland Bronchos and Cleveland Blues9,0618,744.50891058.0317752111817318Detroit Tigers9,0598,771.50811072.52887114161617219Cincinnati RedsCincinnati Redlegs and Cincinnati Red Stockings10,3019,979.50791055.5322101051519073410Chicago White Sox8,9768,811.50461134.0165563916912811Pittsburgh PiratesPittsburgh Alleghenys10,20110,040.50401136.01619951618894012Los Angeles Angels of AnaheimAnaheim Angels, California Angels and Los Angeles Angels4,3734,344.50171202.029911109561013Atlanta BravesMilwaukee Braves, Boston Braves, Boston Bees, Boston Rustlers, Boston Doves, Boston Beaneaters and Boston Red Stockings10,34910,298.50121191.051171732318985114Toronto Blue Jays3,0353,097.49491247.5-625225681615Arizona DiamondbacksArizona Diamondbacks1,4031,450.49181240.0-475115400216Houston AstrosHouston Colt .45's4,1764,382.48801319.5-2067109848817Oakland AthleticsKansas City Athletics and Philadelphia Athletics8,6679,104.48771435.0-437161592618733818Kansas City Royals3,5893,823.48421333.5-2347318812419Washington Nationals3,5793,835.48271344.5-2563003863520Minnesota TwinsWashington Senators8,5499,246.48041565.0-69710631416032321New York Mets4,0904,456.47861399.5-366542710031422Milwaukee BrewersSeattle Pilots3,5453,875.47781381.5-3303104802523Baltimore OriolesSt. Louis Browns and Milwaukee Brewers8,4729,313.47641637.0-8419731317552824Texas RangersWashington Senators4,1414,560.47591426.0-41952061033525Philadelphia PhilliesPhiladelphia Quakers9,50210,614.47242055.0-111212721419683326Miami MarlinsFlorida Marlins1,6851,911.46861329.5-2260222492127Colorado RockiesColorado Rockies1,6841,916.46781332.5-2320103512028Seattle MarinersSeattle Mariners2,8683,264.46771414.5-3963004716429San Diego PadresSan Diego Padres3,4453,983.46381485.5-53652059041030Tampa Bay RaysTampa Bay Devil Rays1,3231,531.46361320.5-20821043771
