Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Love this story in USA Today about Bartolo Colon and his impact on the young pitchers. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2015/07/19/bartolo-colon-mets-rotation-mentor/30398101/Two great quotes. First from Harvey:"All of us would love to play with him for the rest of our careers," Harvey said. "He's meant that much to us. But whenever he decides to hang it up, we'll remember it very well and what we learned from him. We're all better pitchers because of him."And from Familia:"He's meant everything to me," said Mets closer Jeurys Familia, whose 27 saves by the All-Star break were the most in club history. "He's taught me everything. He talks to me about baseball, how to be a major leaguer, everything. When I do something wrong, he'll show me the right thing. I owe him so much."Sounds like the $10 million a year was well-spent.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I liked that article too. What with his weird zen detachment on the stage, I would have thought of any veteran influence points he's earned as having been earned through example, rather verbal contributions.Good footwork by Nightengale, who's old skool in the better sense of the term.
