The Redbirds come back for one more after getting embarrassed by half a Met team (the weaker half, I think) yesterday.

The Cards have a lot of guys named "Matt" these days. But it's a rare lineup we see without aMolina in it.

Also interesting the way Terry set the first four.

Scoreless through two. It's been the Curtis Granderson Show so far, as he has the team's lone hit, got caught stealing and made an error in the field.

den Dekker single and a Granderson double put the Mets up 1-0.

The Mets and Cards are tied in the Spring Training standings, so you know these two teams are going to leave it all on the field.

4th-inning Scott Moore slam-bang off Colon knots the game.

Y'know, the fences moving in could be, um, not the best thing for Senor LDL.

Scoreless inning for Buddy followed by 2/3 by Rice (including a strikeout) and the last out of the eighth obtained by Jeurys.

And they go with the culturally correct but logically questionable move of going to Mejia for the ninth. Leadoff double and the runner is sacrificed to third.

HOLYSHITFANTASITICFINISH.

Xavier Scruggs (actual name: "Xavier Scruggs") flies out for the second out to Kirk Nieuwenhuis (I don't have to look to spell it). But that's why you bunt the tying run from second to third with no out, so you can score the guy on the second out, right?

NOPE! Nieuwenhuis made the catch and nailed the runner at the plate. The old Scrabble-intensive Nieuwenhuis-to-Plawecki putout. GAME OVER! Let's see Jenrry STOMP!

And thanks to the miracle of broadcasting and the additional miracle of the internet, you saw and heard it all as it was happening.

Oh, wait, no you didn't.

I don't front, X. Scruggs
X. Scruggs, you're a guy that can't plate no runs on me

That was an awfully shallow fly to try and score on, but
a) He damn near did
B) Mets executed

Niuwy is awesome, by the way. I know he'll slump at some points, and always whiff his share, and at some point he's going to have to come to terms with the fact that his wife is sleeping with me, but what an athlete.

Nice pick-up of Nieuwy's throw on the short hop by Plawecki.
Lord knows we've seen enough of those NOT made over the last few years.

Plawecki, interestingly, had the plate blocked and seemed to slide his leg out of the way before applying the tag.

Folks have been conditioned.
