Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Wow. That they whacked Madden suggests a real death spiral, I would say. And Bondy was always enjoyable. They are no longer trying.
dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Just showing what a generational thing reading the newspaper is, one of my co-workers, a huge sports fan, isn't at all familiar with Madden or Bondy, and only knew Lupica by name...
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Also out: Hank Gola, Stephen Lorenzo, R.A. Dickey collaborator Wayne Coffey, occasional baseball fill-in guy Roger Rubin and sports editor Teri Thompson.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 A bloodletting.I suspect Loop resurfaces as a part-timer at Newsday, just to keep his profile up, but lives off his young adult novels and occasional TV.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Newsday just sold, along with the rest of non-MSG Cablevision, to Altice, a French telecommunications outfit. Dolans will stay at the Garden, you lucky Knicks fans.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Wow... Does this mean that from now on Newsday will be published in French?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I get a journo job update thing everyday. Congrats are in order for TrackyAndy Martino was named Senior Writer on the new digital long-form team at New York Daily News. He most recently served as Sports Reporter at the publication covering Major League Baseball.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 What's a "digital long-form team"? And does this mean he won't be covering the Mets anymore? I bet he got this gig because he sounds exactly like Michael J. Fox.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Martino has been off the Mets beat for a few years, he most recently was a baseball columnist, kind of a minor-league Bill Madden with a focus mainly on Mets & Yanks
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I guess he has, hasn't he? (I don't pay much attention to the bylines.) I mostly know him from Mets Hot Stove although I have seen his name on columns in the News.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 this just means he'll do less "Noah pitched six innings and struggling in the 6th" and more "Noah is a racist asshole who.."or something. less news stuff more story.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 "Hall of Famer" Bill Madden was on SNY's Mets Playoffs Live today. He was comparing the 2015 Mets to previous Mets pennant winners. When he got to the 2000 team, he dismissed them as having Mike Piazza, Carlos Beltran, Benny Agbayani, and not much else.Didn't that team also have Edgardo Alfonzo? And Robin Ventura? And Cleon Jones? And Hubie Brooks?(See, I can be just as ill-informed as Bill Madden.)
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Yup. That's what he said.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I think Madden just assumes that anyone on the current NYY roster is old to have already signed a FA contract 15 seasons ago.
