Martino has been off the Mets beat for a few years, he most recently was a baseball columnist, kind of a minor-league Bill Madden with a focus mainly on Mets & Yanks

I guess he has, hasn't he? (I don't pay much attention to the bylines.) I mostly know him from Mets Hot Stove although I have seen his name on columns in the News.

"Hall of Famer" Bill Madden was on SNY's Mets Playoffs Live today. He was comparing the 2015 Mets to previous Mets pennant winners. When he got to the 2000 team, he dismissed them as having Mike Piazza, Carlos Beltran, Benny Agbayani, and not much else.

Didn't that team also have Edgardo Alfonzo? And Robin Ventura? And Cleon Jones? And Hubie Brooks?

(See, I can be just as ill-informed as Bill Madden.)
