Vic Black, like Josh Edgin, surprised everybody by failing to make the team out of camp. When he did join the squad, he proved to be effective and trustworthy, also like Edgin. had a nice little run there for a while as the "Seventh-Inning Guy," as goofy an assignment as that is. But then he herniated a disc and appeared only twice in September.

With Bobby Parnell expected back, Black becomes the fourth-highest-profile right-handed reliever on the team, behind Mejia, Parnell, and Familia, but ahead of Torres. If Dillon Gee ends up in the bullpen, Black could be the guy squeezed out.

What do you forecast for Blackie?

The Mets have more righty relievers than A-Rod has excuses. And Black pitched well enough to get some interest from other teams, while his loss wouldn't seem to be a hardship. I see him getting moved in the right deal after being showcased in some early season games to show that he's healthy.

Has one of those 'step up' years where he has a really good month and Collins rides him. Numbers pretty close to last years, just over more time. Few less walks.

59.2 IP, 54K, 28 BB, 2 SV, 1BS, 140 ERA+

Another guy the team handled correctly last year. I'm going to say 65 IP with 70 K, a 2.70 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.

Blown saves, huh?

Sure. It'll be late July. The Mets just played three close games and the bullpen is tired. Collins uses Black with a 5-4 lead in the 7th and he gets the job done. Collins leaves him in to start the 8th and Howie Kendrick jacks a lead-off home run to tie the game.

And while i'm making this prediction ridiculously specific..

It'll be July 23rd (they just swept Washington to take a .5 game lead in the division) at roughly 9:42:34pm. The home run will be one of 4 home runs all season by an opponent that wouldn't have been a home run in 2014 in that new section in RF. Kendrick will circle the bases in 14.2 seconds. The home run will travel 391 feet. The attendance will be 32,455 and the game-time temperature 82 degrees.

I'm starting to have doubts that we'll ever see this guy again. What do you think?

    Black is black
    I want my pitcher back

It's a possibility, but on the other hand, they haven't diagnosed anything calamitous, and they have every reason to not push him.
