Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I get the print edition of the NY Times on the weekends,Fri-Sun, I think they call it the weekender or something.I'm sure you've seen it advertised.Flipping through section B reading about Yahoo and it'sAlibaba billions I make it to the sports section. Now, ofcourse I expect Jeterpalooza (yes, I stole that from some-one's post yesterday, thanks) and there's three pages ofit. Fine. The Mets played a doubleheader yesterday andthere is no article about the games. Nothing. They areburied in the Roundup section along with five other gamesunder the title; After Loss, the Mets are Guaranteed a Losing Record for the Sixth Straight Season. I don't think I've ever opened a New York newspaper theday after an east coast Mets' game and not find coverageof the game, games in this case. There is a whole pagedevoted to the Ryder Cup. That's in Scotland, in caseyou didn't know. What time did the NY Football Giantsgame end last night? They got almost a full page too."All the News That's Fit to Print" -- Bah!
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 It also happened recently in the newspaper with a motto that should be, "All the news that's shit, they print" - the Daily News. As noted here in the pool, there was no mention of the Mets game in either the on-line or the print edition.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Yeah, I've seen September games in lost seasons go unreported, save for the wire service roundup, but probably, yeah, for East Coast games, one of which was during the day, that's pretty unusual.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I'm sure I have to, but don't recall. I suppose it's the over-coverage of the stuff going on in the northern borough that made it stand out so much. But really, they didn't send someone to cover this series at all? Are they really that unnewsworthy? And unnewsworthy is a word Mr. Chrome, so stopunderlining it in red!
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 If they were really innovative they could've elicited a fan story. grab a blog entry, hell, 'hire' a September intern from a local school.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I imagine it wasn't that they didn't have a beat guy at the show, but rather a question of space and priorities.Even the Harvey angle is a heckuva story that's everywhere this morning.Everywhere but the Times, that is.

Or they move them to the Yankees beat for it. here:19 days agoSeth_Everett's avatarSeth Everett @Seth_EverettHey @TimRohan, there's APB out 4 u in the Mets Radio Booth (@MetsBooth) u haven't been seen since u're story from Vegas & there is concern.DetailsOpenTimRohan's avatarTim Rohan@TimRohan@Seth_Everett hah! I'm covering the Yankees, filling in for WaldoTom Rohan is the Times beat guy. Looks like they do repub AP stories though, so probably a space thing as well.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Sure, but that doesn't mean they don't have an alternative stepping in, of only a stringer. Or yeah, just ask for more than a paragraph from the wire service.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 This is the WSJ not the Times, but I imagine their might be similar philosophies.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Sports is still a relatively new field for the Journal, and they don't seem to feel obliged to run game reports every day.

I feel like I've seen similar sentiments from the NYT guys over the years though is all. Just observing, I'm not really concerned with what gets printed in the physical papers.
