Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Juan Lagares has been named Defensive Player of the Month, which, if I knew it was a thing, I had forgotten. But it's a thing.Andrelton Simmons stole a series from the Mets, but Juan Lagares, you are DPotM!

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 It's an ESPN thing, which doesn't make it any less worthy than an MLB thing, but as true as it is -- Juan Lagares is the Defensive Player of a Generation -- it doesn't quite carry the same prestigious imprimatur as National League Rookie of the Month, an award Jacob deGrom earned that set Mets fans far and wide to asking, "What's that?"Reminds me baseball has two different well-recognized Comeback Player of the Year awards; in 2008, The Sporting News gave its love tap to Fernando Tatis, while MLB mistakenly snuggled with Brad Lidge. Nobody gives a damn about The Sporting News the way they used to, but they, of course, were right six years ago.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 And once more, JdG is your NATIONAL LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE FUCKING MONTH.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 It seems that deGrom has become the front-runner for Rookie of the Year. Not so long ago, I was hearing that that other guy, on that other team, (the guy with the stolen bases) was a shoo-in.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Well, it helps that Hamilton posted a .511 (!) second-half on-base-plus-slugging number, and-- by both B-R's and Fangraphs' measure-- actually lost value over the season's last month-and-a-half (defense inclusive).
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Also, Hamilton, for all his SB prowess (56 steals) didn't succeed at a very good rate (23 caught).A few years back that poor a pct (63%) might not have counted against him so much, but these days I think it will.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 What exactly is the 'fucking month"
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 A month in which your performance is so good, it has a sexual value.
