This is my first crack at an IGT this year, so I'm here to give you not just the skinny on the game (Jacob deGrom) but also the fat (Hyun-jin Ryu).

deGrom is making his 2nd ever ML start, coming off his 1 run, 4 hit, 7 inning performance vs the Yanquis

Ryu is making his first since going on the DL on May 1st for "shoulder inflammation" although had already made seven starts by the end of April -- which seems odd until you realize that he started twice in March including both game #2 AND game #3 of the year for LA (their last one in Australia and then the first one back on U.S. soil).
Ryu has thrown up a bagel in 4 of his 7 starts, but then 2, 6, and 8 in the other three.

Lineups to follow, probably one involving many RH batters to face the LH Ryu.
I'm predicting an Eric Campbell sighting.

In hopes of bringing tonights game home in under the execrable 4 hours 8 minutes of Tuesday night, NYM manager Terry Collins is going with a shortened lineup:

Juan Lagares - CF
Dan Murphy - 2B
Dave Wright - 3B
Chirs Young - LF
Curt Granderson - RF
Eric Campbell - 1B
Wil Flores - SS
Tony Recker - C
Jake deGrom - P

LA Dodgers at NY Mets
When: 7:10 PM ET, Wednesday, May 21, 2014
Where: Citi Field, New York City, New York
SportsDirect Inc.

The Los Angeles Dodgers had lost nine of 14 games over a two-week span but once again a visit to Citi Field was all that was needed to snap them out of their doldrums. The Dodgers put up their highest run total since May 3 in Tuesday's 9-4 series-opening victory over the Mets, their 10th win in 11 meetings with New York and seventh in the last eight games at Citi Field. Left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu comes off the 15-day disabled list to start Wednesday's middle game of the series for the Dodgers.

First baseman Adrian Gonzalez is on a tear for the Dodgers, collecting three hits and a homer Tuesday to boost his totals to 8-for-12 over his last three games. Curtis Granderson had his first three-hit game for the Mets and swatted his third homer in his last seven games, but the latest setback was the 13th in 18 games for New York. Jacob deGrom makes his second major-league start hoping for a better effort than Rafael Montero, who stumbled in his second career start Tuesday.

TV:
7:10 p.m. ET, ESPN, SportsNet (Los Angeles), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Dodgers LH Hyun-Jin Ryu (3-2, 3.00 ERA) vs. Mets RH Jacob deGrom (0-1, 1.29)

Ryu will be making his first start in 3 1/2 weeks after going on the 15-day DL with inflammation in his shoulder following a rocky outing versus Colorado on April 27, when he gave up six runs in five innings. He has been superb in all four of his starts away from home, not allowing a run and yielding only 11 hits in 26 innings. Ryu stymied the Mets in two starts last year, giving up two runs and eight hits in 14 innings.

DeGrom was promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas to make his major-league debut in place of an injured Dillon Gee and made a strong case to remain with New York. The 25-year-old from Florida limited the New York Yankees to one run on four hits over seven innings but wound up with a tough-luck loss in the 1-0 defeat. DeGron went 4-0 with a 2.58 ERA in seven starts at Las Vegas, striking out 29 and walking 10 in 38 1/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Dodgers RF Yasiel Puig has hit safely in 17 of 18 games, including nine multiple-hit contests.
2. Mets CF Juan Lagares is expected to rejoin the team after attending a family funeral in the Dominican Republic.
3. Dodgers 3B Juan Uribe exited Tuesday's game in the ninth inning with an apparent leg injury.

DeGrom with nice first, 1-2-3. Puig will always scare me everytime up for the rest of his career. Unless he becomes a Met someday.

Was that Recker back there? SCHWING!

Muffy all squeaky clean and shaved.

Ropes a single over short. If it wasn't for Murphy, watching this team would be unbearable.

It was. It could have been an inch more onto the hands, but... Gonzales is guessing right these days.

That was one incredibly quick bat to turn on that pitch.

I like Campbell in there (f-8). Might as well spell Duda now, I guess. But I'm hoping to see Duda get going and it's not easy when he's not in the lineup.

He sucks. How do bad umps get to keep their jobs?

DeGrom's a dart thrower. I like this guy.

Centeno...that's what catchers do. Take note.
Great throw by Recker catches a silly Hanley.

Then he and that guy behind the plate both suck. I thought I heard the booth calling him Hernandez more than once.

These days I see more shitty umps than not, and that sucks too.

I didn't doubt ya. Just sayin.

I know only the faces of good umps.
That whole crew might suck. We shall see.

Whew, liner to Wright ends the threat in the 5th.

I know, hadda look since it came up.

"Angel, how well you know Blue behind the plate?"
"Not well, he's pretty new ... had dinner last night the four of us."
"Well his stirke-zone almost sucks ass as much as yours does!"
"YOU'RE OUTTA HERE!!!"

Ugh, fuck. Puig. Wow, he hammered that.

Okay, now you have to get at least three runs Mets offense.

Things going south for deGrom in the 6th. I'd like to blame the umps, but I can't. Curve right over the heart and its 3-0.

See, the longer you wait, Mets offense, the worse it's gonna get.
