Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) A couple of near-perfect pitchers getting into a bit of trouble today.Johnny Cueto, who came into the game with Little League numbers [1.25 ERA; 4.1 H/9; 0.71 WHiP; 7 or more innings w/2 or fewer runs in every start this year] got bounced around by the Nats in Washington (although 3 Cincy errors helped) 5.1 IP, 8 Runs/6 EarnedAnd Masa Tanaka is down 2-0 to the Cubs in the 5th - and it might have been worse had the Cubs not bunted into two consecutive outs at home with runners on 2nd & 3rd Edited May 20, 2014 by Guest
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Gotta like Gary's segue off of Ronnie's talk about Dodger arrogance:... and speaking of teams accused of arrogance, the Cubs are leading Tanaka and the Yankees 4-to-1
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 Day action todayThe Cubs continue to show Jeff Samardzija how to be winless despite an ERA that's under 1.4 -- Yanx score twice in the 9th on an infield error to tie their game in Wrigley 2-27 shutout innings from Samar.... gone to waste. Could be worse though, you could be the Tigers who blew leads in the 9th (2 runs) and the 13th (1 run) and finally lost on a bases loaded balk. It was a balk-off win for the Indians.Indians aren't good but on Tuesday they got to Verlander for 5 runs on 11 hits, then today hit up Scherzer for 7 runs on 12.

The eventual winning run scored via a wild pitch that missed the plate by about 7 feet.I think the whole extra innings thing anyway was just a ploy to have the Chicago crowd see Jeter's last AB at Wrigley (what did he have career, like 15?) over and over again. Every time they thought it was the last one he'd come up two innings later for another. On the plus side the north side crowd got to watch him go 1-fer-7
