Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 The local stadium is on fire, and it's not looking good. Fifth Third Ballpark is home to the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Tigers' Midwest League - A, and about four miles from my house. We go there frequently. It's a good place run by good people, and this is so sad to see.The Midwest League All-Star Game was scheduled to he held there this year, and Opening Day is only 99 days away. Heartbreaking. Lots of good memories there. http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2014/01/fifth_third_ballpark_stadium_f.html#incart_river_defaultYour new Met Curtis Granderson playing there.
dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Oh god, that's awful. I've been there too, and it really is (was?) a nice place. I got to watch Jose Valentin close up, without his mustache, coaching third for the Fort Wayne TinCaps, who for some reason don't wear tin caps. I hope they can rebuild.
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Looks like about half the of the built-up part is gone, and that part was the clubhouses, concession areas, offices and suites. Team says it will rebuild what was lost. Most of the seating areas are bleachers on a concrete pad and steps, so I'm assuming they are relatively intact.
