Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Comedian Mike Birbiglia introduces his story of his sleepwalking problems to another medium. For a comedy film, it's kind of depressing. It's not bad, but if you've heard the story on This American Life or The Moth, there's not really much reason to watch it.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 I just finished watching this on Netflix. I do know Birbiglia's stuff, but I liked the movie anyway. Some really good performances, especially by Lauren Ambrose, James Rebhorn and Cristin Milioti (Girl!).
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I'm not sure what's to root for with this guy. He's a timid manchild trying to weaselly escape from a relationship that is more than he deserves... into what? The independence to guiltlessly enjoy the road life of his career that has him upgraded from fifth-rate comic to third-rate on the strength of material portraying his charming and tolerant girlfriend as a pain in the ass? The joy of living on handouts from his hateful father?
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Good points. It's interesting that the ex-girlfriend comes off looking better than anyone else in the movie.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 He's a LOT more sympathetic being brutally honest with himself in monologues/stuff like The Moth than he is as a character in a "fictional" story.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Yeah, the film does really well on Rotten Tomatoes. I'm guessing folks who like his act project the Q-rating he earned there onto his fictionalized self in this movie. Cuz independently, which is how I'm seeing this film, I'm not with him.
