Guest metrotheme Guests Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 For a brief time, the Mets were mightier than the Giants, due in part to the heroics of Joe Hicks. Maybe at 80, he could have done better than some of what the Mets ran out there this year. Fun story about him hitting a game winning home run to beat the Giants at the Polo Grounds and his run-ins with Casey Stengel.http://www.examiner.com/article/hicks-heroics-helped-the-mets-to-slay-the-giants-at-the-polo-grounds-1963

Guest metrotheme Guests Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Yes it is. I figured this is a place where Mets fans would appreciate it.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Excellent , didn;t know he was witness to thisHis heroics earned him a spot on Kiners Korner after the game along with Choo Choo Coleman. Hicks was an eyewitness to Colemans brief, but classic interview that is still told fondly today. At the end of the game, he sent for me and Choo Choo Coleman to be on his show. Ill never forget the interview; we had to climb up in the TV booth. We get up there, and Ralph Kiner said, Hey Choo Choo, I saw your wife at the game today. Whats her name? He said (in a southern drawl), Mrs. Coleman. Choo Choo didnt know anyones name. He would just say, Hey bub!
