Brian Costa ?@BrianCostaWSJ
Ike Davis is hitting some bombs during early BP. I believe one ball bounced off a sidewalk and into the river.

Now if we could only figure out a way to convince the Pirates to use our BP pitcher to start tonight's game.

it was Manny Acosta.

On the plus side, the Mets' first provided enough wind power to supply 12,540 homes in the Three Rivers area.

Nice-- and rare-- hitting job with two strikes, but as a baserunner, Nickeas makes an excellent bunter.

Barajas singing along with "Low Rider" before stepping into the batter's box. Just a really likable dude.

Lewin finally describing Dickey's experience as "sexually abused." They've been using the euphemism "physically abused" most of the season.

Nickeas is doing a lot of chasing tonight.

Eleven strikeouts tonight already. Duda doing his part by letting foul balls drop in.

Dickey's tied his career high with 10 Ks, and pitched one of his better games in blue-and-orange, and he likely won't get the win, thanks to a Nieuwenhuis bobble while scooping up Harrison's should-have-been-double.

OE: Now a career high of 11.

Tie game? Our bullpen? Dickey pitching like he is? No way do I take him out for a pinch hitter.

Even leading off the inning when we need runs desperately?
I'd be shocked if they don't PH

oe: on the other hand I am kind of surprised to see McDonald gone

For what it's worth, both Howie and Josh are in agreement with me. I'd leave Dickey in this game.

Same here. It's not like Torres is doing a significantly better job with the bat of late than RAD.

OE: Case in point.

Bad move. Over managing by Shorty. RA is pitching well, the bullpen is "struggling", Torres can't hit.

NOW is the time that Ike will finally put one [crossout:2czg1mun]into the Allegheny[/crossout:2czg1mun] in play, but still not a hit.

Christ, that was an awful swing by Ike.....

That was one of those where it looks like he decides to swing before the pitch is even made.
His problem is that when he looks to recognize the pitch before deciding whether to swing, those are the ones he's late on.

We're fortunate that McCutcheon's not on 2nd after that play.

Rauch can't catch a break (and the Mets can't catch a ball) these last two nights.
