Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 ALL manner of alumni-- from Bill Lee to Buckner to Bobby Doerr to Nomah to Jose F-ing Canseco-- entering to the strains of the Boston Pops, and taking their collective positions on the diamond... all topped by, um, this. (Which might actually be the most fitting tribute, based on my memory of the place.)
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Did Roger Clemens get a recess from his perjury trial to attend?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 No Clemens. No Schilling ("business engagement"), Boggs (charity event in FL), Damon (training for Cleveland), Nixon (son's Little League event).Francona was there, though... and LOUDLY applauded.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Teams playing in name-less and number-less period uniforms (I wonder if the Yanx needed to be bribed to abandon their standard unis?).Ex-Sox, reportedly over 200 of them, walked onto field without PA introductions (on account of none in 1912).First pitch thrown out by several people including Caroline Kennedy repeating the 100 years ago one by her great-grandfather John "Honey-Fitz" Fitzgerald.Game was timed to start at same time as original: 3:15Now 4-1 Yanx.HRs by Swisher, Chavez x 2, & Papi.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2012 Author Posted April 20, 2012 Ah, I was wondering why there was no introductions......Sox pitching is suspect to say the least....and this is their best going today?

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2012 Author Posted April 20, 2012 To round out the authenticity of the day the park is full of drunks shouting abuse at the players.....
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 And now add A-Rod the the HR parade. The only thing saving the Sox from a complete thrashing is that these have all been solos.I think the tone was set when the very first batter of the second century of Fenway games was Derek Jeter who promptly popped up ... only to have Pedroia drop the ball. Jeets later scored on a ARod single.Don't know if 'The Standells' were invited to play 'Dirty Water' at any point today. They have played there before so it wouldn't be totally unique if they did. What would be kind of cool is Neil Diamond showing up to do 'Sweet Caroline' live in the 8th inning. Maybe he could sing it through a megaphone.
