HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Interesting that McCullough doesn't even consider the possibility that Duda could lose some ABs.

Throw some occasional time to Hairston if you're feeling creaky. Everybody is rested through the year. Win a championship. Fend off adoring women.Didn't that late-80s Roger Craig Giants do something like that? Brett Butler, Jeffrey Leonard, Mike Aldrete, and ???? Or is that just a figment of my faulty memory?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 I think many teams have done something like that. They just don't acknowledge it as such, and treat it as a weakness that they don't have a more set lineup. Even as it's working, the manager will be feeling pressure to commit to an explicit group.

Duda started slowly in both of his previous call ups. slow starter? Maybe he starts mashing soon. But i Nieuwenhuis continues to play like he's a good major leaguer, he'll stay in the majors. Torres barely qualifies as a 'veteran' except on age, and the job's only been his for 5 innings. I expect Collins to want to see Nieuwenhuis stay if he continues to see Nieuwenhuis playing well. I think the "status quo" is Kirk, not Andres. Not going to slot Young into the rotation immediately because he was there last year and he's returning from injury and Gee is just holding his place.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 And if you don't want Duda to lose too many ABs, use him at first during Ike's Unpleasant Valley Sundays.Efgy for manager, indeed.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 2, 2012 Author Posted June 2, 2012 So, we need another outfielder --- or at least outfielder type --- to fill Baxter's spot, at least until Bay returns.

I don't know if that's "Ideal" but Bay DH'd today so that's at least a step down the path towards recovery. 10 days maybe? if he can start playing the field soon..
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 2, 2012 Author Posted June 2, 2012 Well, we need to call up somebody. Preferably a lefty stick. But with Loewen disabled also, there are no obvious choices.Crazy thought that Den Dekker gets the call from AA.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Oh, I'm getting a fever. And the only prescription is more speed, defense, and surprising power from a 24-year-old who can contribute immediately, and make catches like Baxter's without hurting hisself.Or, failing that, Fred Lewis? (.297/.348/.461 over 137 PA, .330/.378/.560 against righties, decent corner defense and speed.)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 Yeah, what we're really missing --- but it doesn't show when you're getting comfortable complete game shutouts from your pitchers --- is a lefty bat of the bench, where we're left with Valdy and his .100 batting average. We can try and live with that and go with righties like Hairston and Rotttino (and Nieuie and Murphy and Torres and Davis when they might be available), but it's not like the problem is going to go away much when Bay comes back.
