Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in the forth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise. He's joined by Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and the lovely Paula Patton. What did you think?

We saw it on Xmas Day in IMAX and loved it (well, I did and my sons did--my wife thought it was loud and plotless). Non-stop action, some laughs, and a good cast. I thought it was worth spending the extra movie for IMAX. I say: "Choose to accept this Mission."

Hated the first one, have ignored the series since.
Maybe I'll catch it when it comes to cable and I happened to be strapped to a chair unable to move or change the channel, but other than that ...

Ended up making it to this on Christmas with a raggedy band of assorted cousins, spouses, and kids.

The Burj Khalifa business, the sandstorm, the silly magnet/fan stuff... I found myself silently smiling throughout. Brad Bird knows his way around a set piece. And Tom Cruise is eminently convincing as a crazy person trying to keep another crazy person from blowing up the world. And "Ghost Protocol" and the plot and the Jeremy Renner character/motivation are all so fucking stupid, they're delightful. This might be the best, most-expensively-produced bad movie I've ever seen.

Turn your brain off when they're talking/emoting, and watch it in IMAX. (If you're going to see this on a small screen... you really don't want to see this on a small screen.)

didn't see it in IMAX... maybe that would've made a difference for me, but i doubt it. I hated the 1st one, found the John Woo sequel perversely entertaining (now THAT'S a good bad movie), the 3rd one has been completely forgotten and i forgot this one as i walked out of the theater. and not a minute too soon.

yes, some great set pieces, strung together by almost nothing.

Pretty good. They learned from the mistakes of the second (i.e., have an interesting villain) in #3, and learned more from #3 (i.e., it's the Impossible Mission Force, not just Tom Cruise).

Made me feel like a clueless old man trying to follow plot intricacies.

Fun scene-setting establishment shots with kooky camera angles that seem to give it Brad Bird's signature. Otherwise, I take little away from it besides the corpse of a dead evening.

James Bond Rule: If you have to infiltrate the home of a fabulously rich man to help save the world, he'll always be hosting a scandalously lavish black tie party that evening.
