Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Jake Westbrook's sequel to Five Easy Pieces: Six quick pitches to get out of the first. And six more to get though the second.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Gary and Ron acknowledge breakup of R.E.M. in the context of being from same town that produced Jake Westbrook. Failed to berate them for selling out.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Through 4 1/3, Mets' best chance to score was a foul ball.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Excellent diving catch by Mike Baxter keeps Cards' lead at 4-1, prevents Braves from protesting Mets' use of Ryota Igarashi. If the Red Sox want him, btw, I'm sure he's available.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Author Posted September 22, 2011 Pagan shows us again that he's a dope by swinging at the first pitch after the pitcher walked two in a row and 3 in the inning.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Gary Cohen, perhaps channeling Harry Doyle, just referred to "Igaroshi".
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Or it's a Dizzy Dean tribute, in deference to being in St. Louis.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Author Posted September 22, 2011 Are you kidding me?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I can't believe I just screamed "YEAH!" for something that benefited the Braves.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Same. But then, LaRussa brings it out in one, eh?SUCKS TO YOUR PITCHING-CHANGE TOURETTE'S!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Willie Harris is now officially useful.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I don't think I'm overstating the case when I say Holy Fuck.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 May this not all go to 'nell.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I'm just surprised that there's no appreciative applause of the home team's effort by the Best, Most Loyal Fans In BaseballTM.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 That was friggin awesome.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Notice, if you will, the buntless ninth. We did manage to use our best weapon of late --- the old bases-loaded walk.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Wow! Had stuff to do earlier so I recorded the back half of that game and just finished watching it via delay. Was considering giving up a few times but hung with fortunately.Gotta like that we won a game after our first three runs were 'driven in' by walks & WPs before actual hits kicked in in the 9th.And for all the fans who constantly complain about how we always get beat by scrubs & no-names*, consider that the Cardinals just had their season effectively killed by Ruben Tejada & Willie Harris.* something which, in truth, the fans of all 30 teams complain about while also thinking it's something unique to their team
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Plus a walk and a run and a big catch by Jason Pridie. A pinch-hit walk and RBI and run by Turner. Igarashi bailed out the Cap with a runner on third in the fifth and pitched a scoreless sixth.Wright? Whiffed with the bags juiced in the ninth.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 The other fun thing is that after LaRussa moved to his 'defense' lineup in the late innings he wound up in the 9th without Berkman (sked to leadoff but double-switched out) followed by several of the lesser hitters in there for their glove-work.Plus the glove guy in LF still couldn't catch up to Tejada's ball. Not that they were wrong moves necessarily, only that they wouldn't have been made (at least not in such wholesale quantity) had there not been expanded rosters and that they came back to bite him in the ass when his hurlers couldn't get the ball over the plate.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 It's like a reverse Joel Piniero game.And, Braves? You're welcome.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 For my own selfish Schaefer purposes, I hope Marc Rzepczynski never becomes a Met.
