Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Woody Allen's latest. I have no idea how to describe it without spoilers. I enjoyed it.
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 I'm looking forward to seeing it, but more importantly than that dude, we had an epic (by CPF standards) pro-wrestling thread and you missed it.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 I really enjoyed it - it was clever and entertaining. It would have been better with someone other than Owen Wilson as the protagonist, but it was a lot of fun nonetheless.

Guest sharpie Guests Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I liked it. And I've disliked his most recent movies. Part of it might have been because I was just in Paris and read "A Moveable Feast" while I was there.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Even without Woody being in it, virtually every moment in it is still pure Woody.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Owen played Woody.Just not as well as Woody plays Woody.
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Owen was a better Woody than Kenneth Branagh was.I liked it, but I'm a big Woody Allen fan, and a fan of Paris.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 not bad. I can see how Paris visitors would get a bigger kick than us non-Paris visitors would.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 I enjoyed it. I had no idea it was Woody Allen nor am I a fan of Paris. Although most of these literary movies go over my head, and usually convince me I should read more Hemmingway/T.S. Eliott/etc.What was Dali's obsession with Hippos? Does he draw Hippos a lot? Is there a famous painting I'm unaware of?I felt like the movie ended a bit abruptly though. From his 'aha' moment to the end of the film seemed too quick.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 i loved every moment he was in the 20s and loathed every minute he was in the present. that he would be affianced to such a bitch in the first place does not make me like him either, but that he was so liked by Hemingway, Fitzgerald, etc., made me like him again. as to where this fits into the Woody filmography, i'm just too tired to update that thing.
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Not sure what to think to be honest. Cotillard was sensational, everybody else was ordinary. The best original screenplay Oscar should have gone to The Artist. I watched Carlos Beltran look at Wainwright's curveball while living in a tiny Parisian apartment but I can't say this film made me barmy with nostalgia. The characters didn't "live" in the city. Funny thing is the Cafe's where Hemingway et al, would hang are still open but they weren't used in the movie. Ceetar wrote:What was Dali's obsession with Hippos? Does he draw Hippos a lot? Is there a famous painting I'm unaware of?Rhinos not hippos. And yes the he's done numerous paintings and sculptures of rhinos. What was implied in that scene was that Owen Wilson's nose was the inspiration for his work with rhinos. The conversation with the surrealists was my favorite scene in the film, btw.
