Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 As somebody who has been to all of one game this year, and getting indifferent MLB.tv service from my crappy wirelesss provider, I'm not seeing what you're seeing. But am I alone in picking up what looks like folks responding to field leadership from Jose Reyes? That perhaps our clownish, perpetually immature, unfocused goofball is not just a fun guy in the dugout, but the sergeant out there on the field, too?I don't know what it is, but it's like everybody who makes an out, he runs toward them, sometimes receiving the relay, sometimes not, but the play isn't over until he nods to the guy that he did his job well, and then that any communciation on what the next alignment is will come through him.I'm sure this is 80% reading too much into a guy who's having multi-hit games every night while David Wright is on a table next to me at the physiotherapy clinic, but there's definitely something there.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Tell you something else: This year's edition of Ruben Tejada looks like he has the poise of a big leaguer. Maybe not enough skills to excel, but he'll bounce back from failure better and be around for a while.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Oh, I thought I was watching a big leaguer even last year, the issue then was it was definitely too early and there obviously was a terrible chemistry situation brewing with Castillo but even as he struggled I thought he was one of the few who carried himself like he belonged.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 He's smirky, but plays hard. I like that in a 21-year-old on my team.Don't buy Reyes' act. It's obviously a contract-year emotional-maturity uptick.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I always got good vibes from Tejada too -- I'm just unsure if he'll ever hit enough to become a full-timer but even that's looking a bit more promising this year.

Didn't really look like anything to be, but he looks better this year. Not as overmatched, a little smoother in the field.Reyes I think has always been a bit of a "field leader". I think without David doing some of those things, he's taking it upon himself. Or Maybe Castillo was a downer and being with Tejada is fun. and Turner. who knows. But Reyes is quite literally impossible to ignore offensively, defensively, etc. He's the center of the game. He's always been reported to be (when guys are not just making things up to criticize him anyway) an extremely hard worker so it doesn't surprise me that some of these other guys look up to him. He's playing with three 'rookies' on the infield, four if you count Thole. He's a grizzled veteran.
