If you're going to drop a pop up to second in the ninth inning in a one-run game, do it in relative privacy.

ARGH! Another called 3d strike for Ike. How many is that?[/quote:3tm9rou5]

National League pitchers: They strike Ike.

Wayne talking about Takahashi wanting to start:

"Let's face it --- he's a reliever. Those days are behind him. The further he gets away from that sort of thinking, the better."

What?

3walks as well. Did he swing at all today? Or could I have stood in the batters box with the same effect?

Ojeda taking Niese to the woodshed. Didn't grow mentally, should've thrown inside, deserves to sit around all winter and think about this.

Seems to me that we've had a bunch of games like this this year, games where we've 'gotten to' their good pitcher only to have our starter or the pen (or both) have an even worse day at the same time.
It's probably happened less often than I think, but I know there were two Halladay games that fit.

Very frustrating.

I'm sorry, but how you get two genetically different animals and
Wayne's watch from that is beyond me.

"Let's face it --- he's a reliever."

The difference between who is a starter and who is a reliever is an accident as much as anything. And after Tak has been starting and winning for ten years in Japan, nine as a starter, it's a disservice of Wayne or anybody else to smugly label him and typecast him as if any other idea is an athlete being silly and un-self-aware.

He'll probably continue to relieve next year, but he's certainly not wrong for selling himself in a bigger role. Every athlete should.
