14-for-24 in the playoffs. Had 3 hits, reached base 5 times, and scored the GW run in the 11th inning as the Gnats beat Greensboro last night 4-3 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-three Sally League Championships.

As suspected, he was hurting much of the year and revealed to have had a stress fracture in his foot.

Wearing a boot for 6 weeks and good to go, just like Ike Davis.

Starting the year in St. Lucie (A).

A domino in the centerfield progression: Nimmo-->Ceciliani-->den Dekker-->Niuewenhuis-->Torres

4-5 with a triple, 2 RBI, and a walk-off homer in St. Lucie's 6-5 win over Charlotte tonite.

Tweaked his hammy on that home-run trot and now on the 7-day DL. No fooling.

Returned from the 7-day DL, played two games, now back on the 7-day DL again.

First injury was a hammy not sure what's got him this time.

Darrell Ceciliani, the former New York-Penn League batting champ, has landed on the DL for a third time this season and was sent to New York to see team doctors about a balky hamstring.

This MLB.com update from Arizona is about as lukewarm a story as I've ever read about a prospect. The only thing the manager can think to say about him is where he hits in the batting order.

Look, kid, you gotta make your own breaks.

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- There is a lot of upside with Darrell Ceciliani. One attribute that could be a springboard, according to his manager in the Arizona Fall League, is that he listens and then uses that advice to get better.

Ceciliani, an outfielder who was a fourth-round pick (134th overall) in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, used what he learned in '11 while with Class A Savannah, and despite being nagged by injuries this season, he showed flashes of what could be a bright future.

Hamstring issues limited Ceciliani to only 23 games, but facing better pitching at Class A Advanced St. Lucie of the Florida State League, he hit .329 with a home run and 10 RBIs and had two stolen bases.

Jason Wood, the manager of the Surprise Saguaros, likes what he sees in center field from Ceciliani, whose speed is a big part of his game. As Ceciliani continues to work through the injury issues, he was hitting .238 with a home run and three stolen bases through Wednesday's games.

"Darrell's doing a good job," Wood said. "We're putting him in different situations as far as where he goes in the lineup -- sometimes we're leading him off, sometimes we're hitting him in the six-hole. He's got a lot of thunder in his bat.

"He can hone down his defensive skills out there in center field. He still makes some young mistakes, but I think the mistakes he makes, he's learning from them. He's being taught what to do and how to do it the right way, and he's open to suggestions and that's the biggest thing."

Getting the opportunity in the Fall League has given Ceciliani the chance he wanted within the organization.

"I love being out here," Ceciliani said. "It's been an honor to get invited to play here, playing with some of the best guys in the Minor Leagues. I think it's just helping me trying to get more consistent at-bats, consistent playing time.

"It's been good for me to see what I'm going to start facing at the next level as I move up the ladder."

In that brief stint at St. Lucie, Ceciliani said all he was trying to do was hit the ball hard and not overthink any at-bat. All he was trying to do, he said, was get a good swing on the balls he liked.

Ceciliani is not thinking much beyond this next season. The main objective, he said, is staying healthy, and "whatever the Mets have in mind for me, we'll see what happens."

"I'm just trying to become more consistent in every part of the game -- defense, offense, using my speed to my advantage, trying to stay healthy," Ceciliani said. "That's my biggest goal, and that's been going against me for the last couple years.

"I'm just trying to figure out way to stay healthy and stay on the field."

So far, Wood has not seen any indications that the hamstring problems have caused much of a stumbling block in Ceciliani's progression.

"He's shown that he's healthy, he's running well and hitting the ball really well," said Wood. "So he's got a long future."

He's really become a singles hitter, which isn't great, but at least he's thawing out in AA. Over the last week: 24 PA, .333/.478/.389, 6 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 SB.

For the season: 1-14-254/317/360

A 'Hot List' Honorable Mention for this past week:

• Darrell Ceciliani, cf, Mets -- The 23-year-old missed virtually all of last season, and he hit a modest .262/.309/.367 through June this year at Double-A Binghamton. But then Ceciliani reeled off an 8-for-18 week (.444) with three homers, a double, a triple, eight RBIs, a steal and two walks to remind everybody why he has a chance to develop into a fourth outfielder. All the same, he’ll need to sharply reduce his strikeout rate (26 percent of plate appearances) to avoid becoming Kirk Nieuwenhuis 2.0.

Got an 11-game hitting streak going including 6 straight 2-hit games. Hitting 400/455/700/1.155 in July.

6-36-281/330/419//749 for the year.

Hitting streak now at 16 games, season average up to .294

Batting .429 in July

Finished July batting 382 but slumping badly again -- hitting .107 in August, and 125/263/125 // 388 over last 10.

I don't think this kind of performance will save him from exposure to the Rule 5 this winter, which I believe they have to decide on this year.

Counting down the hours. Will Darrell remain under Met protection or will they take the chance that someone believes he could be a useful reserve outfielder in 2014?

Now, his performance, particularly his health record, to this date probably doesn't warrant it, BUT ... a speedy LH hitter who can play a good CF and has shown consistent xtra-base power when healthy... plus the whole old-school, dirty-uniform, to-hell-with-batting-gloves "baseball player" vibe he gives off could be mighty attractive.

Zero hour for Cory Hotline Vaughn too.

BA reviews potential Rule 5 picks:

Darrell Ceciliani, of, Mets -- Any team with a gap in its system in terms of outfield depth could be enticed to gamble on Ceciliani, a fourth-round pick in 2009 who has a solid base of skills but no carrying tool. The 23-year-old bats lefthanded and has a full season of experience at Double-A Binghamton, where he ranked second in the Eastern League with 31 stolen bases. Scouts project Ceciliani to have three average tools: hitting, running and fielding, and while his walk rate dried up at Double-A, he did hit .276/.328/.390 versus righthanders and could be a functional extra outfielder.

Two home runs last night, but an overall 262/307/396 line needs a little more sock.

Couple interesting things about Darrell:
* stayed in CF despite Nimmo's arrival
* Hitting lefties better than righties
* Very good on the road (294/349/485//834) but borderline acceptable at home (262/289/341//630) in about the same number of trips. I think Bingo is a fairly neutral park, you wonder what else is at play here?
* The burgers are Ronald's
