So many shutouts!

I just posted this on the UMDB Facebook page, but wanted to share it here as well:

Ultimate Mets Database The past three days marks only the second time in Mets history that they won three consecutive shutouts over the same team. The last time was in September 1969, also against the Phillies. Those three games had followed a shutout against St. Louis. That 1969 stretch was the only time (at least, hopefully, until tonight) that the Mets had won four consecutive shutouts.

The 1969 shutouts were won by Gentry, Koosman, Seaver, and Gentry.

The last time the Mets won three shutouts in a row was in April of 1988, when they beat the Expos (Darling), Expos (Ojeda), and Cardinals (Gooden).

They also had three-shutout stretches in May 1985, June 1984, May 1970, and September 1969. Those three shutouts in 1969 are in addition to the four in a row that occurred later the same month. (That was quite a month for the Mets.) The three-in-a-row involved Gentry shutting out Montreal on the 11th, and the famous pair of Koosman/Cardwell 1-0 wins in a doubleheader in Pittsburgh on the 12th.

I wanna say I remember the June 1984 trio, amid the prom, graduation, 'Born in the USA' and stuff. What a great year 84 was.

I may be wrong(shocker) but I don't remember Gary/SNY giving us the St.Louis bit during the game last night , and they talked a lot about the shutouts.

Either way , good stuff Grim.

One of those '69 was a combined shutout, though, right? With Ryan and Taylor and stuff?

I remember seeing all those shutouts last year when I was going through the stretch drive of the '69 season on a day-by-day basis.
The streak of four was part of a week where they allowed four runs over seven games:
1 run v Pitt (CG - Cardwell)
1 run vs StL (CG - Seaver
2 runs over 11 innings vs StL (7 IP McAndrew; 4 IP McGraw) -- that's right, FOUR
0 runs vs StL (CG Gentry)
0 runs vs Phil (CG Koosman)
0 runs vs Phil (CG - Seaver)
0 runs vs Phil (5 IP Gentry; 3 IP Ryan; 1 IP Taylor)

I didn't check for complete games; I only looked for games where the opposing score was zero.
