We were soclose to getting someone else on the Sunday Night Baseball broadcast. Apparently, though, he'll continue his duties. (Apparently, his brand of special-advising is a part-time kinda thing.)

CINCINNATI (AP)Hall of Fame second baseman Joe Morgan has rejoined the Cincinnati Reds as a special adviser for baseball operations.

Morgan is the latest former Reds star to work with the ballclub. Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench has been a special consultant, and Eric Davis and Mario Soto work with current players as special assistants.

Ken Griffey Sr. also has been a special assistant in the player development department.

Morgan was a key component on the Big Red Machine teams that won World Series in 1975-76. After retirement, he became an analyst for ESPN baseball telecasts.

Ways to get PR-ready big shots in your media guide without having to give them a job description with any accountability:

[list:2us7lumj][*:2us7lumj]special adviser for baseball operations,[/*:m:2us7lumj]
[*:2us7lumj]special consultant, [/*:m:2us7lumj]
[*:2us7lumj]special assistant,[/*:m:2us7lumj]
[*:2us7lumj]special assitant to the general manager,[/*:m:2us7lumj]
[*:2us7lumj]special adviser to the general manager.[/*:m:2us7lumj][/list:u:2us7lumj]

There are others --- community affairs affiliate and such --- but basically, if you see "special" in the title, there's little accountability in the job besides smiling for the media guide. Unfortunately, for a lot of teams many of these bones will be thrown to African-Americans.
