Decades: Met of the 1970s

[G-Fafif]

Please choose the Met of the 1970s based on performance between 1970 and 1979, disregarding anything any individual player may have done in the '60s or '80s as a Met.

Apologies to several '70s stalwarts and fan favorites who did not make the cut. The blue and orange-ribbon committee tried to make this representative from across the decade. Also, at the risk of queering the voting, this could have been a one-man ballot for purposes of selecting a winner, but it's always fun to consider who else was around.

Seaver was, indeed, The Franchise.

Fucking M. Donald Grant....

Del Unser was an alluring alternative, though.

Del Unser was an alluring alternative, though.[/quote:3fu4sibs]

A recent viewing of the 1975 highlight film won Del one of the final spots on the ballot, as the committee was reminded of his Gilkeyesque period awesomeness (stat-adjusted to account for it having been 1975 and his having been Del Unser).

[Guest Edgy DC]

I like that adjustment.

You know, if you adjust for me being me, and neutralize that whole thing, I had as good a '96 as Gilkey.

[Benjamin Grimm]

You only needed to include one choice here.

[Guest Edgy DC]

Yabbut, the John Milner Faction seems say otherwise.

[Benjamin Grimm]

Milner was very good at hitting the ball straight up into the air.

[G-Fafif]

I'm guessing those who voted Milner and Stearns passed their ballot along to the respective ten-year-old versions of themselves.

Seaver's the answer, of course. But I think the poll is a little tough because the best of the Mets straddled the end and beginning of the decades.

[Guest Edgy DC]

This was closer than you might have thought. I guess sticking around an extra season and a half helps, even if it means you lose 30 games in that period.
