Walter Kirn's comedy of alienation is transformed into a dark comedy about a man who fires people for a living, living in transit as an ethos, and the relative importance of human connectedness, featuring a sly Clooney in the lead, flanked by Jason Bateman, newcomer Anna Kendrick, Vera Farmiga and a whole lot of real-life fired folk.

I have my thoughts.

I saw this yesterday, and voted it a 6.

It was a good movie; I enjoyed it. I particularly liked that it didn't provide the ending that, I suspect, most moviegoers were probably expecting.

I was disappointed, though, that it wasn't in 3-D and they never showed the old guy attaching the balloons to his house and floating away.

Not a great film, but a very good one.

I gave it an 8. I might have given it a 7, but D-Dad and I are invested in Hilton Honors points, as is a friend of mine, so that angle provided us with a lot of chuckles this weekend.

I went 7.

I had read the book which is usually a disincentive for me to see the associated movie but since I didn't care that much for the book I made an exception. Also, it diverged wildly from the book including adding the character of the co-worker who travels with him.

Yeah, but, maybe I'm thick, but it didn't provide much of an ending at all. He was on a little bit different track from where he started, but not all that much. His loyalty to his protege was pretty over-the-top considering she fucked up everything, and the denoument was lifted right out of The Devil Wears Prada, of all movies.
