Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 OK, I missed the game up to this point (top 7). Can someone explain THIS to me?- Schneider flied out to center.- A. Hernandez walked.- Figueroa lined out to first, Hernandez to second ?!?- Pagan walked.- Castillo singled to center, Hernandez scored, Pagan to third.- Wright struck out swingingThe Wright striking out part I understand
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I've had the game on since the beginning, but my laptop has beenin the way. Can't help with details ... but I got the lineups up!
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I seemed to have missed that play too.May as well wonder why Beltran swung and popped up on a 3-0 pitch again.OK, rally in the 9th here. Let's overcome Frankie's insurance run at least.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Few things were more predictable than Frankies insurance run....
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Didn't mind Beltran swinging so much there as the fact that he just swung at a shitty pitch. They were gong to bring the LHP in to face Murphy after that so it may have been their best opp to get in the run.It would be just a fitting tribute to the season if they got one run this inning yet still lost on account of Frankie's run.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 FK: It would be just a fitting tribute to the season if they got one run this inning yet still lost on account of Frankie's run <<<And if it was a HR by Sheffield.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Well that's that ... 9 games left unless they gotta make up some rain game I can't think of.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I still want to find out how a liner to 1st moves a runner to 2nd.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Likely an online play by play misprint?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I apologize for being absent from these games. The gym is absconding with my evenings.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I was there. One more to go this season but this one clinched a losing record for me at Citi Field this season. The Figueroa play is just an error; should read "grounded out sharply" to first.Beltran swinging 3-0 was not my first choice, either. I also question the wisdom of using Tatis instead of Sullivan with runners at 2nd and 3rd, righty on the mound and 1 out.Note that Jerry pinch hit for Valdez in the bottom of the 9th with Hernandez out and Tatis already used. If the Mets had to go to extras, it seems pretty clear that Murphy is moving to the left side of the infield. I guess Wright plays SS and Murphy 3B, and Reed (or Thole?) would play first. His hits notwithstanding, Schneider had a lower OPS than Figueroa when this game started. Seriously. In my hoping that this is the last time I see him play (in person), I'll note that it always bothered me that when the game would start, the first thing Schneider would do after getting behind the plate would be to erase the freshly-painted lines of the catcher's box.I don't see many catcher's balks called these days so I was never sure what he was afraid of.
