Douchey guy with a hot wife-to-be sets out to find friends so as to fill out a wedding party. Would you believe that hijinks ensue?

Eh. Although obviously dumb and overwrought, I thought the flick was good at getting inside the idea of friendship among adults. And I'm not too ashamed to admit I saw a little of myself in the pathetic uncool guy who has no friends. I thought he played that awkwardness very well: His nickname fuckingup was very fuinny.

From wikipedia:

Jon Favreau as Barry Mclean: Favreau jested that he had trouble getting into character. He had "never played a character with a small penis before."

You'll probably want to skip Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, then.

I love you man, 40, knocked up in that order for me. I liked it, thought it was decently funny, light and enjoyable. No cinematic breakthroughts or innovation for sure, but they weren't going for that either.

I happen to like Paul Rudd (I think?) and whatshisface from How I Met Your Mother.

Exact reverse order for me, Cee. What Knocked Up gets comedically "right," it gets right in the Louis CK/painful-truth way. And the jokes in 40 were fresher than they were a couple of year later, reiterated, in I Love You, Man.
