I can't let the kid from Hicksville go by, not after his Mets-lovin' pedigree was revealed. He may be only a 34th-round pick, but you know any player who wanted to be the PA announcer at Shea Stadium is going to try his best to make it to Citi Field.

Six games since signing, scattered over July and August. Batting .300. Learning his craft as a catcher, particularly his footwork. No word on whether he's painted his room in St. Lucie blue and orange.

It must have pained him to have been a Long Island Astro, but considering he was born more than four years after Jesse Orosco struck out Kevin Bass, maybe he took it in stride.

In twelve games for our catcher friend from Long Island, a propitious 41 at-bats for the GCL Mets, a .293 average, a .408 OBP and his very first HR in the last game he played, August 29.

Mets catcher Cam Maron and I talked briefly last week. Cam was a 34th round draft pick in 2009 out of Hicksville High School, in Long Island. He didn’t get to play much in 2009 (41 at bats for the GCL Mets), but he showed he was worth the pick: .293/.408/.415/.823. Trust me; the Mets love catchers with an .823 OPS. The GCL Mets actually had four decent catchers in 2009 (Maron, Nefli Zapata, Amauris Valdez, and Juan Torres) so it’s hard to guess where Maron will wind up in the spring. Hopefully, it is somewhere he can be a starter. Mack: So, what are you doing in the off-season? Winter assignment? Instruction League? Rehab? Or just good old fashioned rest and relaxation? Cam: Mack, how's it going? Best of luck with the website and the blogs. After the season I went home and worked out in preparation for Instructional League, which was from Oct 26-Nov 20. After that, I'll be back at it, working out daily, and preparing for the 2010 season. Mack: What was your analysis of your 2009 season? Cam: 2009 was a tough year for the organization as a whole, up and down the entire ladder, from the Majors down to Rookie ball. A lot of injuries occurred throughout and it was very hard to overcome them. Personally, being in Rookie ball this season taught me a lot of small things, and hopefully I can move forward next year. Mack: What are your hopes and desires for the 2010 season? Working on anything new to pump up the volume? Cam: For 2010, my goal is to be in Kingsport at the minimum. Working on defensive skills and my mental game, especially with the coordinators in Instructs. Take those drills and skills home for the off-season and come back ready to compete for a starting position in Spring Training. Mack: Lastly, anything you want to share with your fans out therin Met-land? Cam: Met Fans, I grew up on Long Island, being a Met fan since the day I was born. I been through the ups of the 1999, 2000, and 2006 playoffs, and the downs of the 2001-2004, 2007-2008 seasons. Keep pulling for us, don't ever lose faith. We're working extremely hard in the minors to be prepared for the Major Leagues when our names are called. GO METS!! Thanks for your time Mack.

I'd imagine it's almost as bad as watching the Yankees beat the Mets in the World Series as a 10 year-old and having to go in the next day and catch shit from your snot-nosed bandwagon-riding classmates who wouldn't know which end of the bat to hold, and then to dealing with another bullshit school-wide Yankee Day later in the week.

The kid from Long Island, now listed as Camden Maron (fan-cee!) is back in Gulf Coast ball, getting his shin guards wet once more. First game today: 0-for-2 with a walk and a run.

No relation, I'm guessing by dint of spelling, to Marron's of Long Beach, the kosher delicatessen restaurant of choice when I was kid.

Cam I Am continues to get on base at a torrid pace. In his second GCL game, he walked twice, raising his OBP to .556 in 9 plate appearances.

Cam set off fireworks on the Fifth of July: a double and a triple while grilling two ribeye steaks (per Mr. Hernandez) in four at-bats. An ohfer three days later brought him back to earth a bit. In four games this Gulf Coast season he's posting .308/.438/.538 and has yet to get in trouble with the law as far as I can tell.

The kid from Long Island has broken out of his torpor in a big way, with a walk in his only plate appearance on July 16 after not getting on in his two previous games. The on-base percentage is still robust: .421 after a half-dozen games.

They don't seem to let Cam play that much, or at least they aren't writing down everything he does.

Cam-a-lam-a-ding-dong: 2-for-2 on Friday, raising his batting average to .300 and his on-base percentage to .440. On the other hand, no extra-base hits since July 5...not that he plays all that often. Are they trying to tell him something?

Cam I Am goes 4-for-8 with a pair of RBI in his past two games to raise his average to a crisp .320

GCL Mets season over. Cam Marron's final numbers: .313/.411/.418 in 20 games. 1 homer, 7 RBIs. And, presumably, keepin' it real. Will keep an eye out to see if he's Instructional League-bound or taking classes at Nassau.

Hicksville’s Camden Maron Finishes Second Season With Mets Affiliate Friday, 05 November 2010 00:00 Camden Maron, a 2009 Hicksville High School graduate and New York Mets’ 34th round draft selection in the 2009 Amateur Player Draft, completed his second summer season with the Mets Gulf Coast League minor league team in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He finished the season with an impressive .313 batting average. He’s been back on Long Island since early September where he has been concentrating on strength and conditioning as well as mentoring younger players at The Performance Factory in Farmingdale. He was especially proud to share his talents with the Hicksville Hurricane team. Maron left on Sunday, Oct. 24 for the Dominican Republic where he will be participating as a Met in a month long fall league. After that he’ll return home for the holidays and prepare to leave in February for spring training back in Port St. Lucie.
