="John Cougar Lunchbucket"]Rob Lowe must die.

I know, right? At least get in the homopugilistic spirit of the theme and post a video of him working out his torso in Youngblood.

Better by far would be to just post a video of Joel Youngblood.

eh, it's ok. We didn't play well enough to win tonight. And I'm not explicitly against invoking St. Elmo if it brings inspiration.

Floor is open to the next inspired threadstarter.

good start. You get the next IGT.

Giving potential runs away in the 1st inning = not good

Then in the 8th, Castillo, Wright & Francoeur all hit consecutive liners but we had only one single to show out of it.

That and one bad inning from Neise.

Watched with friends in a pub setting. Bats just ran out of wood. It happens. Especially with this team, it happens.

On the plus side-- hey! Two solid starts from Niese, really, against teams that should whap the crap out of him. And Parnell looked good (take note, Clevelanders!) and nasty. I'm encouraged.

And I don't care how you slice it, remix it, or slap a cutesy "Shamwow" ad tag on it-- absolutely nothing good has been or will ever be inspired by "St. Elmo's Fire." NO ONE DENIES THIS.

If anything, it's anti-inspirational.

"I was thinking of switching to tenor sax."

"Yeah? Like Rob Lowe as Billy Hixx in
St. Elmo's Fire
?"

"You know, I think I'll stick with coronet."

_____

"One thing I could do with all this hair is put it up in a big old top knot. There's a thought."

"Like I Demi Moore in
St. Elmo's Fire
?"

"Yeah, I think I'll just cut it all off."

______

"So, dude, I got into Georgetown."

"Dude, you could hang out at all the places the gang in
St. Elmo's Fire
haunted."

"Where's that Bucknell brochure?"

Anything good you can say about the decade of the eighties can always be rebutted with, "Yeah, but St. Elmo's Fire."

Hell, I'll do it. I have a great theme all picked out.

Not Rob Lowe's sex tape I hope.

]I apologize for my younger self getting in the way of the Mets' continued winning ways. I forgot that Angel Pagan takes the theme from "St. Elmo's Fire" very literally, and when he was reminded that he had to be "a man in motion," well, he couldn't help himself, thus the attempted steal of home.

Much as I put my role as saxophonist Billy Hicks behind me and went on to much greater acting glory as Deputy White House Communications Director Sam Seaborn, I'm hoping the Mets will Wing their way to victory against West division foe Arizona.

As for Friday's game, if the Diamondbacks come after Livan, we're gonna bust them like a piata.

God bless the United States of America.
