Yeah... I've got an affinity for the freaky-looking. Also, he was born 3 days after the Cooter's bar fight in Houston (7/21/86).

Now, how do I get this kid some meatball sammiches?

He's had a rough go of it so far, and is a longshot (and one long one at that), but I believe in him... until he's out of baseball. (And, hell, even a bit beyond-- America likes tall people.)

Come on, B-biscuit!

Is that your low-A material, Edge?

Needham debuted in relief Saturday against the Bluefield O's, scattering 3 hits over three and giving up an unearned run, with 1 K and no walks.

Then he accidentally slipped under the locked clubhouse door and had to be pulled from the game. (Geddit? It's a skinny joke!)

Good news: 2nd game for Kingsport-- first professional win!

Bad news: 3 ER in 4 IP on 5 hard-hit balls (3 2B, 1 HR).

Good news: 7 IP total on season, no walks. Pound that zone!

Bad news: Judging from pics, he still appears to weigh less than your average weekly grocery purchase.

A Mischworthy 4 2/3 inning scoreless stint in a losing cause drops the Don Martin-drawing like Mr. N's ERA to 2.31 over 12 IP on the young season, good enough for tops on the team.

Got hammered like an Irish nail last night-- 6 ER on 7 hits and 3 walks in 2 2/3 for the loss, against Bristol.

No longer leading the team in ERA (5.65).

Final tallies:

15 games pitched for Kingsport, all in relief
28 IP, 1-3 record
5.72 ERA, 1.66 WHIP
6.7 K/9, 4.4 BB/9(!), 1.0 HR/9
Approximately 560 groans while bending down to do/undo/tighten cleat laces

We'll see if he can make some progress next spring. Until then... stay golden, Needle.

After leaving extended ST, the Needle's was assigned to, and has been plying his trade for a week for, high-A St. Lucie.

He's pitched twice... and, well, let's just not look at the stats just yet. Suffice it to say, he's still searching for his sea legs, command-wise.
