Yeah, but I like having that option no longer available.[/quote:og1fkuiq]
That option has probably been the best of the three options you nitwit.[/quote:og1fkuiq]

Can't hit, can't field (which is WHY he was brought here), and can't run. The guy has been a disaster since coming here.[/quote:og1fkuiq]

KILL HIM!

I'm not huge fan of Schneider but come on he's it after Santos and the injured Castro....what's the status of Castro , with this long road trip coming up who is going to catch with Omir?

Brian Schneider last season: .257/.339/.367 in 384 PAs
Omir Santos best season, at any level (2002, split between the NY-Penn and Sally leagues): .275/.317/.400 in 331 PAs

That's it. That's the best he's done, ever. He's 28.

But yeah, Schneider[/url:3qr68pcq] can't[/url:3qr68pcq] field[/url:3qr68pcq].

well done OO.
i dont like schenieder, but being happy he is hurt is pretty damn stupid considering hte other options the Mets foolishly left themselves with.

The front office must be kicking themselves over letting Flores go in the rule 5 draft a few years ago.

You have to forgive SJR, he suffers from listening to too many folks who value having an opinion more than they do actually reasoning it out and that if they yell said opinion out loud enough and often enough it becomes true whether it actually is or not.

AH, COME ON, FRAYED! Brian Schneider is TERRIBLE.

He's a TERRIBLE player, and the Mets are better off without him. TERRIBLE!

Not who I was talking about MD but always good to hear from you anyway.

And the thing about Schneider is that, yes, he's been a disappointment, both in his the fact that he doesn't give the impression of being the top-notch defensive fielder we were led to believe and in his inability to stay on the field. Anyone who thought coming in that he was going to be a dynamite hitter has only himself to blame.

But, to a large extent, Met fans have been spoiled over the last few decades by having the likes of Carter, then Hundley, then Piazza behind the dish (and also fooled by Posada across town). Many of them need to be reminded of the dirty little secret that reads: [u:1fn9o8fu]most catchers don't hit much[/u:1fn9o8fu]. Schneider's offense (particularly if you throw out last season's first half - he was much better in the 2nd) is much closer to the norm than a lot of fans seem to think. You want to find an upgrade for next season or even this it's fine with me -- just don't expect to find one under every rock.

More catcher news - from Adam Rubin's blog, NYDN:

Catcher Javier Valentin, Jose's brother, has signed with the Mets and will report to Triple-A Buffalo, replacing Rafael Arroyo on the Bisons' roster. Valentin, 33, has appeared in 631 major-league games from 1997-2008, with a combined .251 average, 45 homers and 210 RBI in 1,507 at-bats. He spent spring training with the Nationals but declared himself a free agent when Washington asked him to go to the minors.
