Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 They certainly picked a nice pair of former Mets to participate in their celebration of Shea Stadium. I hope everyone will be provided with firecrackers and bleach.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 I'm going to guess the honorees weren't chosen to match up with the theme.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 Yeah, I know. But it's more interesting if you disregard that. There's also George Brett and the Pine Tar. Too bad Ozzie Smith never did anything infamous at Yankee Stadium.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 With that lineup, the theme should be the 1985 World eries, also known as the "I-70 Showdown Series" and the "Show Me Series." It went seven games, and it hinged on a blown call. That call goes right and Whitey Herzog is in the Hall of Fame. It also might have helped if his Rookie of the Year didn't go getting run over by a tarp machine. That's drama.

Columbia is smack in the middle of the state. There are more Cardinal fans than Royals fans, so there was a bit of an underdog thing going on. That Cardinal meltdown in Game Seven was just bizarre -- Tudor punching the electric fan, Andujar freaking out on the mound, Herzog getting tossed.
