Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 (edited) SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, SEPTEMBER 2008 The Schaefer Mets Player and Pitcher of the Month for September 2008 is JOHAN SANTANA. This is the second consecutive month that Santana won both awards, and it's his fourth time overall as Pitcher of the Month. (He also won in April and June of this year.) In September, Santana went 4-0 with a 1.83 ERA in six starts, including one complete game shutout. He also led the club in strikeouts with 47 and in innings with 44.1. No other pitcher came close to Santana in September Schaefer points. His 25.83 points more than doubled those of his nearest competitors, Mike Pelfrey (12.65) and Oliver Perez (10.27).Among non-pitchers, Carlos Delgado earned the most Schaefer points in September, finishing second overall, 1.72 points behind Santana. Delgado led the Mets in home runs (8), runs batted in (22), and his 33 hits tied David Wright for the club lead, one ahead of Carlos Beltran. Delgado and Wright had the same number of hits in the same number of at bats, both going 33 for 97 and hitting .340. (Carlos Beltran had the team's best batting average for the month at .344.) Delgado also led the team in slugging with a .649 to Beltran's .645, while Beltran had the best on base percentage, .440.And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is BRIAN STOKES. Stokes is also a repeat winner from August and is the only Mets pitcher to be Reliever of the Month twice in 2008. Stokes' victory shows that Schaefer can be particularly unfair to relief pitchers. Stokes did pitch more innings (13.2) than any other Mets reliever in September and tied for the club lead (with Pedro Feliciano and Joe Smith) in games with 14. But Stokes was 0-0 with a 4.61 ERA while Smith went 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 3.2 fewer innings. Smith finished a mere 0.04 points behind Stokes, who took the clinched the title with his scoreless inning in the season's final game.Month-to-date totals for September 2008Through game of September 28, 2008RankNamePoints1Johan Santana25.832Carlos Delgado24.113Carlos Beltran22.804David Wright19.635Jos Reyes13.086Mike Pelfrey12.657Oliver Perez10.278Ryan Church9.349Daniel Murphy9.2110Jon Niese5.3111Brian Schneider5.1912Brian Stokes4.8513Joe Smith4.8114Luis Ayala3.8515Ramon Martinez3.7716Pedro Martinez3.5417Damion Easley3.3518Fernando Tatis3.2619Scott Schoeneweis3.0620Duaner Sanchez2.8421Nelson Figueroa2.7722Nick Evans2.3823Robinson Cancel2.1824Bobby Parnell1.8625Ricardo Rincon1.6426Pedro Feliciano1.6027Brandon Knight1.2928Endy Chavez1.0929Aaron Heilman0.7930Luis Castillo0.7231Ramon Castro0.1632Marlon Anderson0.0733Argenis Reyes0.06Coming up tomorrow: The long-awaited announcement of the Schaefer Mets Player of the Year! G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I would have voted for Smith a bunch in September if just for the thrill of seeing another BG card (though I still love the '70 Stokes). The pitcher of the month award may as well be renamed The Santana. And if Schaefer ever starts brewing in New York again, they might want to change the name of their brand to the same.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I notice Johan outpoints Pelf and Ollie combined (and almost Pedro). BG, is this the most internally dominant Pitcher of the Month performance ever? Has anybody in the history of the august balloting so completely owned the show?
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 How bad was AReyes' month to finish behind Marlon Anderson?
